I really think they should and will go with a new face for Celie….exactly like that did with Whoopi Goldberg.

I ultimately agree. That’s why I think Celia Rose Gooding would be another perfect choice. Just in the event that Hollywood gravitates towards a known name like they usually do, I think Keke Palmer could be a really inspired choice is all.

Yeah, I see Keke more as Nettie as well……

Now that it’s been confirmed that Corey Hawkins and H.E.R. have been cast as Harpo and Squeak, respectively, here are my ideal cast for the rest of the roles:

    Celie – Cynthia Erivo
    Mister/Albert – Colman Domingo
    Shug Avery – Audra McDonald
    Sofia – Da’Vine Joy Randolph
    Nettie – Keke Palmer
Old Mister – André De Shields

Anyone else would be unacceptable. To you Fantasia, Normani, and Chloe x Halle fans, quit trying to make them happen. Fantasia can’t act and the others can’t do either. I said what I said.

Except Fantasia got excellent reviews as Celie on Broadway.

Audra is bit too old to play Shug. Da’ Vine Joy Rudolph would be perfect as Sophia….but then again so would Danielle Brooks.

Quit lying. Fantasia didn’t star as Celie on Broadway. She took over the role for the NATIONAL TOUR. Originally, Tina Turner was offered to play the role of Shug in the film. At that time, she was 46. Audra is 51, so please. Age has nothing to do with the role of Shug. It’s about the acting and if 6-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald can do nothing else besides break records, is act. Danielle isn’t a film actress. She’s a television actress. Those are two different mediums.

Actually, Fantasia did star in The Color Purple on Broadway. She took over for LaChanze as Celie in the original production.

Lying? A simple Wikipedia search would have cleared up any confusion on your end. Fantasia starred on BROADWAY…like I and another poster just said. And Margaret Avery was 41 when The Color Purple was released….. Clearly you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Exactly what I said previously. The poster is confused.

I mentioned Tina Turner NOT Margaret Avery. Tina Turner was offered the role of Shug Avery first but she declined it. Then Margaret Avery won the role. But at the time that Tina was offered the role, she was 46 years old, just five years younger than the age Audra McDonald is now.

Lets focus first on the fact that you said Fantasia was on the NATIONAL TOUR of The Color Purple when she absolutely was NOT. She was on Broadway….she even performed at the Tony Awards…..solo because she was THAT praised for her performance.

And to say that Danielle Brooks is not a film actress. What does that even mean? When she starts doing big screen roles…she will…..just like Jodie Comer is becoming a film star as we speak. Oprah Winfrey was a television presenter before she won the role of Sophia…so I’m not understanding your logic behind that statement.

What a woefully ignorant way to view a performer.

I know this is one that might be out of left field but:
Kerry Washington would be good for a role in this maybe as Shug? We know she can sing now (The Prom) and she is one hell of an actress.

It’s not ignorant if it’s true.

Your profile picture is of Diahann Carroll, an actress who earned an Oscar nomination for Julia, won a Tony for No Strings, and earned four Emmy nominations, along with finding great success on Dynasty. Wow — I guess an actress can work anywhere.

    Again: woefully ignorant.
