Replace Molly’s Game with Get Out and the drama lineup might be your Oscar nominees list.

Didn’t they start like three weeks ago with the SAG nominations?

Fair enough, I meant the next stage of awards season and I think of SAG as a separate thing. Even then I’d be wrong the Artios Awards nominations (the casting guild) were yesterday.

Someone on Awards Daily suggested Blade Runner is not an example of good editing; it’s NON-editing.

I think they need to abolish distinctions between drama and comedy since most of the “comedies” are actually dramas.

Didn’t mean to hit the like button.

3 Billboards is a dark comedy, I, Tonya is a dark comedy, Lady Bird is a dramedy. All belong in this category. Get Out has no business being nominated anywhere. So who cares. Baby Driver should be in drama.

The Lego Batman Movie bombs at the Annies, then gets into a field of three here.  Is it getting nominated at the Oscars or not?

Remember that Nightcrawler and Gone Girl got ACE nominations simultaneously, then neither ended up with more than a single Oscar nomination.

Hoping that I, Tonya over Best Picture contender The Big Sick means something, but it is probably just equivalent to Call Me by Your Name missing for Blade Runner 2049 and Molly’s Game because of flashier editing.

    Nice thread title.

WGA nominations are tomorrow and PGA the day after. I posted my predictions in another thread and am reposting them here:

What are we thinking for PGA?

I think we have 5 sure bets

1-5) Get Out, Three Billboards, Lady Bird, The Shape of Water, Dunkirk

    After that gets tricky

    6) Call me By your Name
    7) The Post

The Post and CMBYN should be getting in but thier underperformance everywhere makes me suspicous.

    For 8-10 I suspect they’ll surprise us.

    8) The Florida Project
    9) The Big Sick
    10) Baby Driver

    ALT) Bladerunner 2049

I’m not sure if The Glorida Project is too Indy for PGA, and it hasn’t been doing great outside of Dafoe. I have The Big Sick in because it low key reminds me of Bridesmaids. And I have Baby Driver getting in as my wild card pick. PGA likes occasional blockbusters and I feel like Baby Driver fits that bill. I was debating between Baby Driver, Bladerunner and Logan. Logan seems like a long shot and Bladerunner flopped and underperformed with critics so I decided not to bet on it.

    WGA Predictions

Get Out, Lady Bird, The Big Sick, Phantom Thread, The Shape of Water

CMBYN,Mudbound, The Disaster Artist, Logan, Mollys Game

I do not see The Florida Project as much of a factor for PGA.  Even Room was too indie for them.  We need to consider Molly’s Game because the ACE-PGA statistic is so strong, even covering stuff like Saving Mr. Banks and Sicario. I think that Phantom Thread is too inaccessible for WGA.

Look at “Blade Runner 2049” pulling through! Excellent! Prayer circles for Roger Deakins next.
