As far as PGA, I wouldn’t be surprised if Logan or Wonder Woman appears on their list of ten in addition to ones people have mentioned above. They went with Deadpool last year and The Dark Knight a few years ago. I feel like out of these two Wonder Woman might have the slight edge. Both have strong reviews, but Wonder Woman outperformed Logan at the box office although only by a small margin.

The Art Directors Guild nominations are tomorrow as well, so if Blade Runner doesn’t get in there, it won’t have a chance of winning anything at the Oscars.

    My predictions for ADG

Fantasy Film: Beauty and the Beast, Blade Runner 2049, mother!, The Shape of Water, Wonder Woman

Period Film: The Beguiled, Dunkirk, Murder on the Orient Express, Phantom Thread, Wonderstruck

Contemporary Film: The Florida Project, Get Out, Girls Trip, Lady Bird, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri

Why would Blade Runner miss ADG?

mother! is contemporary and The Shape of Water is period.

I think they need to abolish distinctions between drama and comedy since most of the “comedies” are actually dramas.

For the ACE Eddie Awards, I agree with you. As for the Globes, I’ve honestly grown numb to their ridiculous genre categorizations.

I didn’t, I said IF it misses here, it will probably miss everywhere. This was the branch that loved the original when no one else would. I doubt it does though since it’s going to win the Oscar over SOW.

Is this true? Or are those your opinions?

There has been no indication of it missing though.  You could make such a statement about anything.

All category placements are on the ADG website.

Regarding Call Me By Your Name’s ACE Eddie snub, good news for that films stans is that Spotlight was snubbed by this guild a couple of years ago and still won Best Picture at the Oscars. The bad news for CMBYN stans is that Spotlight still got 2 SAG nominations, including a key Ensemble nod, and also had Globe nominations for Writing and Directing, none of which CMBYN has received.

I think BR2049 will get into ADG, but its snub for SAG Stunt Ensemble was still pretty shocking.

It was just because it missed ACE where I’m sure quite a few people thought it would make it in.

    Revised predictions

Fantasy Film: Beauty and the Beast, Blade Runner 2049, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, War for the Planet of the Apes, Wonder Woman

Period Film: Dunkirk, Murder on the Orient Express, Phantom Thread, The Shape of Water, Wonderstruck

Contemporary Film: Get Out, Girls Trip, Lady Bird, mother!, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri

It did not miss ACE ????

    I have no response.

I’d be much obliged if anyone knows a good mental asylum I could check into.

Why is CMBYN getting the Carol treatment? I saw a critic on twitter who spoke to Oscar voters and guild voters about how they said they “went for this last year.”

I think it belittles Moonlight’s win. It’s also really disrespectful and still shows a huge problem in the industry.

Consider this. Maybe they just passionately loved Moonlight, on its own as a movie, that happened to have a gay love story, while not caring as deeply for Carol and CMBYN simply because they are gay love stories the PC police told them that they are supposed to love, because they truly didn’t love them on their own merits as individual films.

CMBYN is actually underperforming much worse than even I had anticipated. I had both Stuhlbarg and Hammer getting in at SAG for Supporting Actor, but both got snubbed. I’m still not sure if Luca can get in Directing at the Oscars. I’ve been long suspecting he could be the Lenny Abrahamson of this year, right down to the inevitable DGA snub and the already prior Sprirt and Globe snubs, yet still making the cut on Oscar morning. However, Room also got in at SAG for Tremblay along with Larson, while Chalamet was CMBYN’s only SAG nod. I will continue to see how disastrously CMBYN does or does not perform with more guilds before taking it out of Best Picture in my Oscar predictions.

Yeah apparently these voters aren’t feeling Get Out either because it’s a “genre picture”. It’s extremely aggravating.

To be fair with all the constant hype since last January it was bound to happen that CMBYN would fail to meet expectations.

It would be quite funny if both The Shape of Water & Three Billboards… had 2 supporting actor nominees.
