This marks the first time that this quintessential New York filmmaker has landed the coveted slot at his hometown festival.

Just saw the trailer in facebook. I thought it was amazing. I’m kinda excited. I have a feeling that this Oscar season is really competitive. Good, high-quality movies are coming out.

I’m shocked there aren’t more posts in this thread after the trailer’s release.
The Irishman is absolutely winning best cinematography. It’s shot by Rodrigo Prieto: 5 Mexican cinematographer winners in 7 years?

That cinematography is just jaw droppingly gorgeous, Netflix may just snatch the Oscar again.

Based on trailers alone I think there are a number of films that may be likelier to win that particular award than The Irishman.

Okay, would you mind listing them?

Sure; 1917 or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (disclaimer: I actually haven’t seen this yet as it doesn’t come to UK till later this month). Also The Goldfinch, The Lighthouse and even The Painted Bird (b/w Interslavic film competing in Venice) are possibilities depending on how much traction they gain. With The Irishman, I’m reminded of GoodFellas which had great cinematography by the previously nominated Michael Ballhaus but still missed that category, though I don’t presume to know anything yet.
