I thought this might be a nice break from focusing on Oscar although I’m not sure if it will generate much interest.

Does anyone remember the blood bath which occurred determining which film was the clear winner?
I remember it best from my own perspective, because I went head to head with some of the most knowledgeable members of the site.
I had TSN rated slightly higher mainly because of the screenplay and the more complex way the story was structured.

But there was an attempt to “shame” me into realizing that TSN was the clear winner. That’s a tactic that has never worked with me.
There was a refusal to acknowledge that TKS was inspiring to anyone who has directly or indirectly struggled with speech impediments and similar barriers, whereas Zuckerber g is a smarmy little creep with devious and backstabbing politics.
But this was presented as the reasons why TKS was going to most definitely lose, and they only ran out of arguments when they gave both PGA and DGA to Hooper. Instead it was proof that the Academy has bad taste, like mine.

I’m not going to lie about being delighted, laughing, and uncorking a special wine since it felt so good about being vindicated.

It was also identical to why I’m sticking with Joaquin. Go ahead and try to bully me.

Anyone else have thoughts on this? it doesn’t matter to me which film you preferred or which was the better film. That s everyone’s prerogative.

    Black Swan.

    The only correct winner.

Edit: Since we’re also ranking the movies: Black Swan > Winter’s Bone > The Social Network > Toy Story 3 > The Kids Are All Right >>>>> The King’s Speech

“No user starts this shady” - someone culturally relevant.

Also got banned because...reasons? So, I guess ciao.

It was similar to how the 2014 Best Picture race between Birdman and Boyhood shaped up. The Social Network had swept through all the critics awards, so people thought it was going to be the unstoppable frontrunner all before the industry had their say with The King’s Speech. It’s one of many examples of how critics awards almost mean nothing when it comes to the Oscars. In hindsight, it shouldn’t be too surprising that Tom Hooper won the DGA given how he started out in television, and several voters in the Director’s Guild work in that medium.

Kevin Jacobsen actually covered this Oscar race on his podcast last year with Robert Licuria.
And the Runner-Up Is…THE SOCIAL NETWORK

I didn’t know we were doing what we preferred out of the whole category. Tbh:

Black Swan > Social Network > Winter’s Bone > 127 Hours > Toy Story 3 > Inception > The King’s Speech lol, it was such an uninspired choice in a truly great year for film (by Academy standards)

I wouldn’t place those kinds of restrictions. Whatever you want to say ‘re TKS and TSN

Darlings, it’s time to accept that The Social Network was the definition of extremely overrated. The King’s Speech wasn’t the best movie of that year, but at least it was a classier, better movie and certainly, more entertaining. Fincher really thought he did the movie of the decade lmao. He lost as he deserved.

The Social Network in many ways was a movie that would define some of the key concerns of the decade in cinema. David Fincher’s a great director and this is one of his best. It would have been a more forward-thinking move…

but not going to lie, I like The King’s Speech more. It’s a funny movie with real charm and personality. It’s both empathetic to the process of a speech impediment being improved (which I have had happen to me in real life) and understanding of political pressures.

Also, The Social Network 2 based on the stuff that happened this decade in regards to Facebook is going to be the real Oscars worthy movie if that happens. The drama, the political intrigue, and the attempts to do a character study of that amorality – that would be something for the ages.

Black Swan is so overrated. The Social Network deserved it the most that year but Inception was a close second to me.

My personal choice for Director was Aronofsky. I also tried to point out that Hooper was well liked with the Directors branch but that was dismissed as irrelevant. I didn’t know as much as they did about movies but I always had better instincts mostly because I was never as confident about being “right”.

It showed that even Kings could suffer with impediments and that it was going to be all right and could happen to anyone.
