A groundbreaking choice would have been Toy Story 3. I know that would never happen, but it was arguably one of the most universally acclaimed movies of 2010 and honestly it would have been deserving.

Also, Danny Boyle was so robbed of a Director nomination for 127 Hours

Truly one of the worst lineups of the decade, and that is saying quite a lot.

I always waffle between Black Swan and Toy Story 3. They are both a lot of fun in their own ways, and both are very dark, with Black Swan featuring a killer performance and Toy Story 3 having so much heart. Usually I tip it in favor of the former, because I ultimately find it more interesting.

This year is also a case where I would split BP and BD, despite both films being nominated in both categories. BP goes to Black Swan and BD goes to The Social Network. The latter suffers a lot, in my eyes, from Sorkin’s God-awful screenplay, but it is a fascinating study in the ways in which a director and a screenwriter can push and pull one another. Fincher clearly despises Zuckerberg, but Sorkin finds him almost delicious. Even if The Social Network is perhaps the worst of Fincher’s oeuvre, the direction is still kind of miles above the rest of the category.

Anyway, here’s my ranking. Top 5 are pretty solid, the next two go back-and-forth, and the final three are pretty interchangeably bad.

    1. Black Swan
    2. Toy Story 3
    3. True Grit
    4. Winter’s Bone
    5. The Social Network
    6. The Fighter
    7. The Kids Are All Right
    8. Inception
    9. The King’s Speech
    10. 127 Hours

I personally would’ve given Toy Story 3 Best Picture, and Christopher Nolan Best Director.

If I have to choose between King’s Speech and Social Network, I’d probably go with the latter. I don’t mind King’s Speech winning though, as I think it’s very good, and Colin Firth was awesome in it. Hooper’s direction was good, but Fincher should’ve been ahead of him.

I would have ranked Winter’s Bone a bit higher and demoted 127 hours, perhaps because I’ve lost respect for Franco. Not sure.

My head wants THE SOCIAL NETWORK while my heart wants TOY STORY 3.

I liked THE KING’S SPEECH but it didn’t really impress me in the manner of the other two films..or even a couple of the other nominees. That was also shocking because normally I’m a sucker for British films like this.

    1. The Social Network
    2. Toy Story 3
    3. Black Swan
    4. Inception
    5. The Kings Speech
    6. Winter’s Bone
    7. The Kids are All Right
    8. 127 Hours
    9. The Fighter
    10. True Grit
