So the more I see the way they are promoting this movie, the more I think they will submit Jodie for lead actress. She’s being positioned as sort of the lead of the movie…being the sole cast member at the UK premier and French premiere, the way Ridley has talked about her.

I get the reasoning but I don’t see her having a chance in lead solely because she’s up against some actresses who ARE their movie: they are the sole focus and performance (Chastain, Stewart, Hudson, for example). It’s hard to compete with that when you are only in a third of your own movie.

anyway, I hope they campaign in supporting but I’m feeling like that’s less likely. Hope I’m wrong!

I also really hope they campaign her in Supporting because her getting in for Lead seems unlikely. It’s too competitive, and as you already mentioned, the other actors in the category are the focus of their films and have plenty of screen time. Also, when it comes to Scott’s two films coming out this year, I think Lady Gaga is more likely to get in for Lead than Comer.

I think they’ll go the supporting route for her, she’s currently doing the Europe promo because she’ll be filming the final season of Killing Eve and will be unable to do US promo.

    Positive reactions from French critics:

    1. Maximilian Pierrette: What movie #LeDernierDuel ! At the crossroads of Gladiator and Rashomon, Ridley Scott orchestrates a medieval 3-voice story that goes from one point of view to another and is very current and chilling in its evocation of masculinity and violence against women.  Source: https://twitter.com/maxp26/status/1441678202632425479

    2. DisneyPhile: EXPRESS REVIEW:#LeDernierDuel is the touching story of a woman’s quiet heroism that takes us through several perspectives and tales of honor, pride and men’s wars. Ridley Scott delivers a relentless saga! Success ! Source: https://twitter.com/DisneyphileLIVE/status/1441680258369875974
    3. Stephanie Belpeche: #LeDernierDuel A medieval drama told by its three protagonists who in turn deliver their totally subjective version of the facts. Intelligent writing, subtle interpretation and it’s nice to find Gladiator’s Ridley Scott who films the action with passion! Source:   https://twitter.com/StephBelpeche/status/1441719880680628224
    4. Romain Tormen: It’s time to talk about #ledernierduel ! A true story so difficult but so strong with as much sadness as violence! Jodie Comer is exceptional! See you on October 13 in theaters! Source: https://twitter.com/Rom1N2k/status/1441687003330920448

Exactly, I hate that a lot of pundits have written her off already in terms of a nomination.

I swear some people seem to be deliberately ignoring that more positive reactions have come in after the Venice premiere . They just want the film to fail, and have been negative about it for months on here.

Right!!! I’m ready for more American critics and pundits to see it. I still think the movie itself will get good reviews (maybe not great, but solid) but if Comer gets raves from American critics and pundits, she’s still very much in the game…at least for supporting.

I wonder the same, maybe early October?

Yeah, maybe early October. Looks like some of this year’s Lead Actress and Supporting Actress contenders (Lady Gaga, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana DeBose) have already started campaigning at the opening of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Opening Gala: http://www.wireimage.com/search/#events?q=%5B775709246%5D&p=2&s=3

Don’t know when KE S4 wraps, but I hope Comer will be able to do FYC events for the film.

Matt Neglia from The Next Best Picture posted on his Twitter that he’s going to see TLD this Thursday. This must mean more American critics and pundits will be seeing it this week (and he said there’s no embargo on reactions). So we will be seeing what more people think.

I’m really curious to see how more American critics think about it. Because of how competitive this year, I don’t expect TLD to have many chances at the Oscars but perhaps Jodie in supporting…we will see. I’m feeling a lot less confident than I was a month ago.

If more critics are seeing it this Thursday, then maybe the US premiere will be this week. I’m a fan of Ridley and I get he likes to be busy, but I’m concerned that him juggling so much this year-promoting The Last Duel, shooting and finishing House of Gucci, and prepping Kitbag-could end up hurting him in terms of award nominations. A part of me is annoyed HoG is releasing this year because it could end up hurting The Last Duel’s chances. I’m also not sure why MGM decided to release the trailer for it a week after Disney released the trailer for TLD considering HoG comes out in November, and trailers for other November movies-Nightmare Alley and Licorice Pizza-were recently released. COVID-related delays are obviously why he has two films coming out this year.

I thought he seen it already at the time with this tweet:

Seems like non Venice reviews are actually in favour for the movie
