After making splash with The Vvitch and The Lighthouse, Robert Eggers is back with his next film feature “The Northman” which has become as one of the most anticipated movie for this year. Some information on the movie:
Director: Robert Eggers
Writer: Robert Eggers, Sjon
DoP: Jarin Blaschke
Cast, Alexander Skaarsgard, Ethan Hawke, Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor Joy, Willem Dafoe, Ralph Ineson, Bjork
Release: 22 April 2022
Distributor: Focus Features
Budget: $60 MillionI would love to see this to gain some mention during next year awards season although it would be a sparse one (and it likely wont). This sounds like darker version of Gladiator. Skaarsgard and Taylor-Joy looks like they got the most meat of their role with Bjork probably will become a scene stealer

I’m still excited.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 31, 2022 at 12:06 am #1204761167I’m excited for this! The trailer was meh but at least didn’t give every damn detail away. Jarin Blaschke cinematography will be *chef kiss, The Lighthouse was a stupendous feat. Co-written by Sjón as well, should be a treat.
I’m not the biggest ATJ fan in the world but give me Alexander Skarsgard, Bjork, Willem Defoe, Ethan Hawke and Nicole Kidman any day of the week.

January 31, 2022 at 12:11 am #1204761175I love Eggers’ movies but the trailer for this one looked so generic. Still will probably be entertaining but I’m not too hyped up about it.
Also I know they’re in flashbacks but Nicole Kidman playing Alexander Skarsgard’s characters mother feels creepy.

January 31, 2022 at 12:21 am #1204761194I have a feeling this film will be very messy, I don’t know why since I loved every Eggers work so far.
The trailer’s framework seems off to me, something about the angles, the closeups, the low camera looked very… Netflix-esque, like FilmRoyalty said. The color grading was also all over the place, the shot I really liked was Anya Taylor-Joy on the ship, her blue dress matching the ocean, the platinum hair highlighted with the sharp focus looked beautiful.
Some of it looked like a CW show to me, so I made a comparison of shots I liked and the ones I thought were bad.

To quote Tina Fey in Last F**kable Day, “You how Sally Field was Tom Hanks’ love interest in Punchline and then 20 minutes later she was his mom in Forrest Gump.”

After the first one there were only a few reactions. After the second screenings, in multiple cities, there were multiple 5-star ratings on Letterboxd with multiple “wow” comments (those have been deleted as they often delete test screening ratings). there was also a whole thread on reddit that’s been deleted with reactions that were overwhelmingly positive.
The reshoots only lasted like a week and were always planned since they didn’t get to film in Iceland during principal shooting, so it’s not like they changed much.
Also how are people still spelling Skarsgaard/Skarsgård wrong? They’re everywhwere.
