Come Internationally 1 week ago. Only 4.5 m in The Rest Of The World
Twitter has really ruined brains, huh? It only came out in some territories. Moreover it was playing on very small screens in the UK due to Fantastic Beasts. It’ll do ok for an R-rated movie that’s not comic book crap. I thought the Nic Cage movie would do gangbusters but looks like I misjudged that one.
I expect modern audiences who expect everything to be meta and winky-winky will hate something that’s so earnest.

I do hope that the numbers are wrong and people turn up for the film. I’m going tonight after work.

I prefer my roses whiteApril 21, 2022 at 6:43 pm #1204926523Was anyone truly expecting The Northman to be a blockbuster hit? Not I. People going to see this film certainly don’t care about box office numbers. Eggers is known as a filmmaker more than a hit maker.

HAbsolutely right you are. Still, everyone would love to see healthy returns.
Eggers has never played with this much money.ReplyCopy URLThe Sunne in Splendour.

April 22, 2022 at 10:09 am #1204927601Box Office Pro:
Universal and Focus Features also rolled out The Northman to $1.35 million last night at 2,700 locations with shows starting at 7pm. That’s another over-performance relative to pre-release expectations, coming in ahead of The Green Knight‘s $750K last summer and Ambulance‘s recent $700K. The Robert Eggers film likewise has a strong shot to reach the high end of, or above, forecasts.
ReplyCopy URLApril 22, 2022 at 4:30 pm #1204927989Just got back from watching this. I was supposed to go last night but was too tired from work.
My thoughts!
MAGNIFICENT MOVIE. Robert Eggers did NOT shy away from things with this one. Vikings were pretty f***** up people and we saw that from both sides of the story. The cinematography was A+. Costumes seemed to be pretty much accurate with what I know regarding Vikings. This for me was about storytelling, and this is likely the closest we’ll get to a live action Lion King movie (sort of). The performances were amazing but there’d seem to be moments from Kidman and Skarsgard where the two sounded a bit “American.” Maybe it was just me. The standouts FOR ME were Claes Bang and Ana Taylor-Joy.
This film broke all the screenwriting “rules” and I freaking love it. In the end, I’d walked away satisfied with the ending.
I give this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
ReplyCopy URLApril 22, 2022 at 5:46 pm #1204928058My theatre in Canada was nearly packed yesterday and it seemed like most of the people really enjoyed it, I know I did.
Eggers proves himself to be one of the most singular and striking filmmakers working today. Kidman steals her scenes and it was a great role for her although not a very big one, but certainly impactful. Cinematography and editing were great as well. Skaarsgard completely embodies every aspect of his character.
9/10
ReplyCopy URLApril 22, 2022 at 7:46 pm #1204928143This has definitely gotten both the “this is the worst movie I’ve ever seen” and “this is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen” reactions so congrats to Robert on joining an elite club, though I guess he was already there with The Lighthouse. A lot more of the unwashed masses will be seeing this one though.
ReplyCopy URLApril 22, 2022 at 7:50 pm #1204928147The projected box office for The Northman is now at 12.4M for the weekend which despite its budget, is still pretty decent considering the type of genre film it is.
The Last Duel for instance only made 4.7M on its opening weekend on a $100M budget..
