Since Close has started up the narrative arc once more this awards season , I would like everyone’s feedback on who they think their five most overdue actors and or actresses are in any of the acting categories. Overdue could mean a win or even just more nominations in general .
My list is : (excluding close )
1. Michelle Williams ( I think she’s the finest actress of her generation and she elevates almost everything she’s in).
2. Amy Adams ( an obvious one but I think she deserves a BA nom and win rather than a BSA one …she’s not my preferred favourite for vice this year but overdue none the less )
3. Patrick Stewart ( he’s been snubbed of nominations many a time and deserves more )
4. Angela Bassett ( again elevates everything she’s in , she deserves more parts and more nominations)
5. Toni Collette ( I find Colette as good if not at times better than her much more Lauded contemporaries like Blanchett , Kidman , Winslet etc)
Side note* Mia Wasikowska (of this younger cohort I think she is the most talented – If Saoirse generates so much goodwill among the academy I think Mia should too)

2. Amy Adams
3. Joaquin Phoenix
4. Naomi Watts
5. Toni ColletteDecember 28, 2018 at 9:09 pm #1202712994I’d say a general formula to be classified as overdue is having at least three nominations that you lost for AND having a career that has spanned at least 10 years of good work.
I’d say at the moment only Close, Michelle Williams and Ed Harris are overdue.
Annette Bening is slightly overdue but a lot of her loses I agree with and she tends to play similar characters a lot.

I’d think it would be easier to be good when the whole film is working but Collette did it in a film that was kind of odd and confusing at the end.

I didn’t remember him. Sorry. But personally i also don’t think is THAT overdue. But he’s definitely a fantastic actor.

That’s not exactly an accurate formula. Donald Sutherland is overdue, and he never was actually nominated.

December 28, 2018 at 10:41 pm #1202713043Samuel L Jackson is massively overdue, for his work with Quentin Tarantino alone. I find it a little bit ridiculous that Chrtistoph Waltz has two Oscars for Tarantino films, while Jackson, Tarantino’s definitive acting collaborator has none.
Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, The Hateful Eight, Django Unchained….Jackson would be a worthy supporting actor winner in any of these films. Add a few other stand out things like Jungle Fever, A Time To Kill and Unbreakable, and I think he’s nailed on to win a competitive or honorary Oscar at some point.
