I thought this would be a nice way to share which performances people thought were particularly deserving but sadly were overlooked by the academy this year. Feel free to post your picks here.

My top 10 would probably look like:

    1. Ruth Negga, Passing
    2. Martha Plimpton, Mass
    3. Hidetoshi Nishijima, Drive My Car
    4. Richard Ayoade, The Souvenir Part II
    5. Joaquin Phoenix, C’mon C’mon
    6. Anders Danielsen Lee, The Worst Person in the World
    7. Woody Norman, C’mon C’mon
    8. Renate Reinsve, The Worst Person in the World
    9. Richard Jenkins, The Humans
    10. Diana Rigg, Last Night in Soho

Solidarity with the striking writers. Pay them the wages they are owed for bringing us the content we are all on here because of!

For me my main gripe has been the lack of recognition for Anne Dowd; Martha Plimpton and Jason Isaacs from Mass. I don’t understand how you can watch that film and not see them as top tier.

He should have taken the 5th slot. Sublime work that’s sooo heartbreaking. Might as well give Drive My Car a total of 5 nominations as well.

Michelle (Yeoh, Williams) Oscar campaign manager.

Ruth Negga, Tessa Thompson, Martha Plimpton, Ann Dowd, Jason Isaacs.

Five of the best performances in any year. They deserved better.

    Ruth Negga

    Hidetoshi Nishijima

    Joanna Scanlan

    Tessa Thompson

They might as well have nominated Bradley Cooper in lead since they nominated Nightmare Alley in Best Picture, he’d have been more deserving than Javier Bardem for sure. Also would’ve taken him in supporting for Licorice Pizza over J.K. Simmons.

    Joanna Scanlan

I didn’t mention Scanlan because she was ineligible at the Oscars but absolutely! I’m glad her performance is garnering more visibility on here after her BAFTA nomination.

    Great picks overall as well!
