Actors must be much more selective when it comes to choosing roles as Leonardo DiCaprio does: 3 last films 3 Oscar nominations (2014,2016,2020) at the same level as Pacino in the 70s Godfather, Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon (1973,1974,1975) or Daniel Day Lewis in the 2000s and 2010s (Gangs of New York, There Will be Blood, Lincoln, Phanthom Thread …). I have the feeling that today many actors choose roles that make them feel very  comfortable (fast shooting –  easy  money )    and lose their progression. Timothée Chalamet, for example, his latest roles  ( 3 movies in 2021 )  are unremarkable, even pointing to a regression

That’s totally unrealistic. 99% of All actors need money so they couldn’t be like DDL or DiCaprio and retire or fake retire

THE DARK TOWER killed Matthew McConaughey’s career

His last movie though, The Gentlemen was a good commercial success and well received by the general audiences.

One in supporting role in TV and another only with critical success. The A-list career of both of them are gone. Banderas went from starring as Zorro to villains in flop movies (Dolittle, Haywire). I don’t know even know the names of any movie Christian Slater did in the last 25 years.

Y’all on the Nic Cage slander … woah, woah, woah. Mandy was incredible. He was great in Color Out of Space, a surprisingly wonderful sci fi. Pig is one of his best performances. He’s still serving.

Again nobody actually watched these movies. And the number of bad B movies he’s done is way more than the few good ones. And he’s really really bad in most of them too. Tiger King series could’ve been a big hit but oh well. Atleast Nic Cage dropped off in his 50s, those two killed their career in their 30s.

YES MAN killed Jim Carrey’s career. He looked so old with Zoey Deschanel. Like he could be her father

It’s unrealistic for most actors to be selective like those you mentioned though and maybe many just enjoy making movies and don’t or want need to make masterworks to win awards all the time. And DiCaprio’s last 3 films were with Martin Scorsese, Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Quentin Tarantino. Pacino’s was with Francis Ford Coppola and Sidney Lumet. And Day Lewis with Martin Scorsese, Paul Thomas Anderson and Steven Spielberg. They work with some of the best working directors which isn’t a thing all actors can constantly do.

Also Timothée Chalamet’s 3 films are films from Wes Anderson, Adam McKay and Denis Villeneuve and are all pretty heavily anticipated so I wouldn’t call it unremarkable. Dune alone could end up being his biggest role and being the lead and carrying a film like that isn’t a role which seems so comfortable or easy.

    Fantastic Four for Miles Teller.

Turning down Batman and Superman for Josh Hartnett.

    Logan Lerman after Fury.

Sleepers and Speed 2 for Jason Patric.

Journey to Center of the Moon and Furry Vengeance for Brendan Fraser. He’s cumming back tho.

Zoom and Wild Hogs for Tim Allen.

Acting in only 4-5 movies total in 80s slowed down Redford’s acting career.

Welcome to Marwen for Steve Carrell or maybe its too early to tell.

Sleuth killed Jude Law’s leading man career.

Town and Country killed Warren Beatty’s career.

Josh Hutcherson after Hunger Games 4.

    Eric Bana after Munich.

The Walk and Snowden killed Joseph Gordon Levitt’s career.

About Russell Crowe: what killed his career is that he got fat and old. Russell Crowe was The Modern Charlton Heston

This was so violent. Yet very true.

Colin Farrell never was a star but Hollywood tried a lot with him. Michael Fassbender is Very Talented but he is not a star. Fassbender is at his finest as The Villain/Killer

    Julia Roberts after 2009-2010.

From the 90s until mid 2000s, she was easily the biggest female movie star in the world.

I think she definately was great in “Wonder”, “The Normal Heart”, ” Eat Pray Love”, “Ben Is Back” and “August: Osage County” but I agree she made some not so great choices besides those. Saying that, I LOVE “Money Monster” just not her perfomnace in it.
