Reading some reviews or reactions on LB and Twitter it’s funny how most people don’t realize how cunning and sinister Peter is.

YEAH. Because I knew the plot obviously I was a little like “okay you’ve given enough clues, don’t overdo it” but then people were confused initially? So then I was like ok lol Campion knows what she’s doing. THEN I watched it with a friend who, like, literally never watches movies or TV. She watched like one other movie all of this year. When the movie ended I was like “did you get it?” And she was like ofc, and explained every detail perfectly. It’s a lesson to never condescend to your audience 🤷🏽‍♂️

And on that note, I have also read some incredible interpretations on LB. Don’t agree with all of them, but they make me think A LOT. One of them argues that George represents just a more “modern” form of toxic masculinity, the new version to Phil’s old, nostalgic form. He deserts Rose, uses her as a trophy etc. Like literally this person loved the film and genuinely thought that was the argument!!!! I don’t….think so, but maybe? Either way I LOVE IT because I do agree also… I just love films that keep giving gifts like this.

It’s a shame Plemons’ understated role is being forgotten but it makes much more sense to campaign Smit-McPhee’s performance. He’s everywhere at the moment, Netflix is going hard on this.

People who think Benedict Cumberbatch gave the most physically transformative performance of the year:

People who know what Jared Leto has done:

A very annoying young man, who loves cinema. 🙂

    From Clayton Davis

Netflix is holding its first BAFTA LA screening for TPOTD on Monday, Nov. 8

Writer/director Jane Campion, actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Jesse Plemons and cinematographer Ari Wegner will be in attendance for a Q&A.

Netflix seems very serious about this campaign getting all the stars out there as well as Campion & Wegner.

Every list of films that people make of their faves from a festival has TPOTD in the top 3, which isn’t true for Belfast. I see no reason this wouldn’t perform best on a preferential ballot, the “crowdpleaser” moniker is meaningless when people literally find the crowdpleasing frontrunner too boring and lacking in perspective.

Plemons will likely be fine imo, it’s a role made for a coattail and it helps that he’s excellent and super widely respected! Apparently he was cast (and replaced by Dano, then replaced him in the end) even before Cumberbatch! Damn. Literal first person out of the 4 that Campion/casting agents wanted.

Great if they could both get into supporting but will be tough.

Can’t see great passion or interest around here for Belfast which is strange for a supposed front runner, but I think it’s good for TPOTD to be campaigning out of the spotlight & pressure of front runner status.

The film is having its limited release in about to 2 weeks. Netflix ought to release the 2nd trailer already well actually it would be the first trailer since they only dropped a teaser.

Don’t stress about the trailer. The teaser was perfection. It doesn’t matter when it comes out

Brilliant trailer and Cumberbatch is absolutely incredible. I’m kind of mad he might not win for this.
