Have you seen the translations for Passing and The Lost Daughter? They’re the worst

OMG, I just looked at the translations and we might as well plan my funeral, because I am dead.

Here, just so everyone else can laugh with me:

Passing is titled “Seitenwechsel,” which means “Changing sides.”

The Lost Daughter is titled “Frau im Dunkeln,” which means “Woman in the Dark.”

I just saw that this is called “Die Gewalt der Hunde” in German, which translated means “The Violence of the Dogs.” Wut. Why. 💀

Lmao. I recently discovered that in Poland Die Hard is known as Glass Trap, and even the sequels not set in skyscrapers to avoid confusion are called Glass Trap 2 etc …

Glass Trap, omg. 💀💀 In German, it’s “Stirb Langsam,” so “Die Slowly,” which also makes no fucking sense.

I’m actually surprised that they didn’t turn The Unforgivable into “Die Unverzeihliche”.

    Those adds are gorgeous.

I had the pleasure of watching the movie a few days ago. Finally !

I’m not sure it’s the right thread to talk about the movie. When and where can we discuss the plot, details, performances, etc. ?

Hmmmm…  why is it written that it is my first post ever ?

I had to renew my password, as I had forgotten it after almost two years not posting. Not that I had a huge number of posts under the belt, but still.

The FYIs are gorgeous. Netflix is serious about campaigning for its first ever BP, and the festival & theatrical run has helped it be a big screen and not just a watch at home movie.

Shy Lurker, this is the place to discuss the film. Just avoid spoilers if you can.

I can’t remember a film that had as much “I need to discuss this with someone!” about it.

Thanks !  I guess I’m looking forward to discussing spoilers !

I suppose we can after December 1st ?

For now, I’ll say that the complexity of the characters of Phil and Peter, as well as  their motivation, is remarquable. Of course, you keep thinking about it after the movie is over, and you see different interpretation to specific actions.

I’d say don’t spoil until the end of the season. Especially not after December 1 when many will be seeing it for the first time.

There’s a lot that’s remarkable about the film (and book) and the ending (at least) should be unspoilt!

This made me realize it’s very close to the Netflix release. Stoked to rewatch it.

They removed a whole bunch of old posts. That’s why.

I just love movies. And awards.

Thanks for the explanations OW1971 and LLLhawks.

No spoilers threads made for some specific films, then ? OK.

Anyways, this season proves to be a lot more exciting than last year.

Gotta say: George gets paid dust as a character, and so ofc Jesse Plemons gets so little credit too, but out of all 4, I LOVE hearing people’s interpretations and understandings of George and who he is most of all, because usually I’ve literally never thought of it, despite having taught the book and discussed the film many times—and because those interpretations make perfect sense!

Finally we have some Plemons interviews to look at and y’all can YouTube this but I realllllly love how the commentary of George as the “society man” itching to move up and move into the modern world is there from the second we meet him, in the way he dresses, everything. George is a pretty different person when he’s not around Phil, so I’m not sure I could even say he’s a slow, dull man. That early scene where he visits the inn with Rose and meets everyone is very out-of-character! It’s just that we only see him through Phil and Rose’s eyes.

And again: Jesse Plemons gets no credit for blending so naturally into this world!!! I’m banging this drum yet again because nobody gives him any credit LOL he’s the MOST natural!

If Plemons gets a nod, it’s some Rachel McAdams in Spotlight-level of uncharacteristic recognition that actors really should get more often (also…I think he will coattail, I really do).
