Meryl Streep will get an Oscar nomination simply because she’s Meryl Streep. I’m really curious to see Murphy’s take on the musical. It has the potential to be *very* Oscar-baity (in a good way) and emotional. That said, I think the soundtrack will be what makes a difference. I’m hoping Ariana will write something emotional for Emma’s character. They need a strong Best Original Song contender.

Yeah she most likely, probably Kidman too. I think that’s why Murphy cast them. Because he knows their star power alone will get him a couple of nominations. Not sure how the voters will react to him though. He has yet to be nominated for an Oscar.

Their best shot is probably Best Original Song. But considering that year is having many musicals, they better submit a competitive song.

Next year has three stage-to-screen musical adaptations coming out. I doubt Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story will have any new songs and I believe Lin-Manuel Miranda confirmed that there won’t be any of them in the In the Heights movie. Though if any new songs are written for The Prom, they would have to be by Matthew Sklar & Chad Beguelin.

It’s going to be tough going against Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story.

Even with Spielberg behind West Side Story, I think the industry may still end up feeling “been there, done that”.

Yeah probably, and I doubt West Side Story won’t have original music. They’ll probably plug in one or two to contend for Best Original Song.

But anyway, we’ll see how it’ll do in the major categories, but for now I think BOS is their best bet.

Spielberg’s recent movies in general have been “been there, done that”

I really doubt this turns out to be an awards contender past the Globes.

So Ryan Murphy had the possibilty to give a great role to Jessica Lange, Susan Sarandon, Frances Conroy, Judy Davis, Kathy Bates or Angela Basset who gave life to all his success on television this decade, and instead he gave the role to Meryl Streep?.Don’t get me wrong, I love Meryl, but she has plenty of roles out there.

He probably wants to take her name off his bucket list.

I dont disagree, The golden globes are gonna love this movie. Like what I said on the forum about the movie Cats, big musicals are like catnip to HFPA. Throw meryl streep in there, this might 7 globe nominations. This will get at least a best song nomination at the oscars

Beth Leavel is soooo percet as Dee on the Broadway stage…

Love Meryl, but right now… I can’t feel it.

Looks like Ariana Grande won’t be involved as previously reported.

My question is: is she’s still currating the soundtrack or what? She’s been saying she’s working on a soundtrack for quite a while now, so I doubt she completely pulled out.
