    Joe Alwyn – The Favourite

Gemma Chan – Mary, Queen of Scots

    Nicholas Hoult – The Favourite

Jennifer Jason Leigh – Annihilation (wasn’t really that much of a small screen time, but she was the definition of supporting)

Margot Robbie – Mary, Queen of Scots (I hate how Elizabeth was diminished to such a small role especially with the promotion)

    James Smith – The Favourite

Tessa Thompson – Annihilation (same as Leigh)

Henry deserved to be an Oscar nominee for his work in this film. Hands down he would have been my number 1 choice for supporting actor.

Brian Tyree Henry, If Beale Street Could Talk
    Ashlie Atkinson, Blackkklansman
    Clark Moore, Love, Simon
    Daniel Kaluuya, Widows
Armie Hammer, Sorry to Bother You

It’s hard to judge where the line between small and really small is drawn though. For instance, the above-mentioned Margot Robbie was very prominent in MQOS so I would never call her role really small. Armie Hammer is a borderline case as well.

For me it was smaller in screen time than what I expected to the point where I never knew if she was really ever going to show up again, except for that confrontation scene (obviously not historically speaking though).

True, but she was still clearly the most prominent supporting player in the movie – some would even say co-lead. So not really small by any stretch if you ask me 😀

Daniel Kaluuya. I am not kidding, he gave me nightmares.

Also, Nicole Kidman in “Boy Erased,” who has that one standout moment.

I’m too lazy to look up the names of these actresses, but these two low-screentime performances stood out to me:

1)The religious fanatic woman who got slapped by her husband in If Beale Street Could Talk

2)The “Araminta” character in Crazy Rich Asians.

If Beale Street Could Talk really has so many of these performances. You could add Colman Domingo and Emily Rios to the list. Obviously King too if you consider her a really small role. That movie really should have won sag ensemble.

I like this topic. Should we expand to other years?
