The Suicide Squad has debuted with a 100% score on RT and witha 78 on Metacritic. Should we start taking it seriously for awards seasons? Can it get into Adapted, Actress or maybe even Picture?July 29, 2021 at 8:52 am #1204369470
Not an Oscar contender but I’m glad it’s getting strong reviews. The DCEU needed a good film after all those duds!
"Shiva Baby" – in all categories especially Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Score
"Together" – in all categories especially Actress (Sharon Horgan), Actor (James McAvoy), Original Screenplay
"CODA" – in all categories especially Supporting Actor (Troy Kotsur)
"Everybody's Talking About Jamie" – Supporting Actor (Richard E. Grant), Supporting Actress (Sarah Lancashire)
"I'm Your Man" – International Feature
"Summer of Soul" – Documentary FeatureJuly 29, 2021 at 8:52 am #1204369474
Come on, it’s so obviously not going to get nominated for Best Picture. That RT score is interesting though. I had it as a dark horse in Makeup (only a dark horse because the two characters that I think secured the first one its win, Joker and Killer Croc, aren’t in the film) but maybe it can get in somewhere else. Visual Effects maybe?
FYC - Oscars 2022:
NINE DAYS in all categories, including:
- Best Picture
- Best Director
- Best Original Screenplay
- Best Actor (Winston Duke)
- Best Supporting Actress (Zazie Beetz)
- Best Supporting Actor (Benedict Wong)

I can’t see it getting anything other than visual effects and maybe a WGA nomination but the hype is real! (at least for me)July 29, 2021 at 12:03 pm #1204369958
Not gonna lie, I am a HUGE fan of anything Suicide Squad and hope it is amazing but outside of special effects costume and makeup I have zero Oscar hopesAugust 1, 2021 at 12:48 pm #1204375583This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.August 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm #1204375665
I live in the UK and we got the Suicide Squad early I realised. I saw it on Friday, it’s awesome. Won’t go into too much detail but it’s fresh, surprising, funny and well worth a watch.
It fully earns its rating, the ensemble is really great. Lived up to the hype for me,August 1, 2021 at 4:15 pm #1204375854
Even Edgar Wrights liked it. Seems like the real deal. And Guardians of the Galaxy is my favourite of these superhero movies so I’m pretty stoked for this. James Gunn got the superhero thing nailed down it seemsAugust 1, 2021 at 5:06 pm #1204375927
LOL no Oscars. I don’t care what critics say. They overrated tons of movies. Birds of Prey was unwatchable trash. Gunn’s GOTG Vol 2 was near unwatchable (save for Yondu parts). So no thanks.August 2, 2021 at 10:17 am #1204376993

Can you please tell me how much screen time Margot in the film?August 2, 2021 at 10:28 am #1204377031

Couldn’t give you exact numbers but she certainly gets a high amount. However, there’s significant stretches where she’s not the focus and screen time is given to other members of the Suicide Squad.
She is one of the most prominent characters but I wouldn’t call her the lead despite her getting top billing.August 2, 2021 at 10:52 am #1204377122
Eternals will be a likelier superhero/comic book based awards contender. But even then, it’s not guaranteed. There’s a genuine bias against the genre within Hollywood despite the fact that these films generally receive good reviews & undeniable B.O. results.
