Having seen this, I’d be surprised if Denzel doesn’t win his third this year.

Isn’t Will Smith getting as good a reviews? Will’s film will be a crowd pleaser, and Will doesn’t have an Oscar. I think Will is still in the lead.

Will doesn’t have the respect factor Denzel does. Also, this will be Washington’s 9th acting nod.

I just saw this tonite not the Qand A one Bc I wasn’t going to pay $100 bucks. first of all the movie is gorgeous to look at. The black and what cinematography is beautiful. now, Frances can go either supporting or leading but I don’t see her winning either way. I’m a big fan of hers but at no point did I say to myself this is Oscar. If she goes lead , I can see her missing. While if she goes supporting and is slow category, I can see her getting nominated. Hopefully, I won’t eAt my own words come next year. Now the actress that plays the witch is very good. However, I would say her screen time is 5 minutes at most or at least felt like that. The third in screen time is Alex Hassell , he is great in role . Surprising that a big name was not used for role. Now movie belongs to Denzel . He is charismatic and great in role. He definitely getting a nomination for Macbeth. He underplays role instead of going loud and big.

Are you able to say how faithful to the Shakespearean text it is, in terms of language especially? I’m trying to understand a) if Adapted Screenplay nomination is in sight and b) how accessible it is for the public.

Anne Thompson on The Tragedy of Macbeth

Both Oscar perennials are back in the Oscar swim, with two-time Oscar-winner Washington (“Glory,” “Training Day”) arguably doing his best work. He will go up against Will Smith in “King Richard” and Benedict Cumberbatch in “The Power of the Dog,” who both seek their first win. Three-time-winner McDormand could go in either Best Actress or Supporting.

The trailer alone is a masterpiece.

Apparently it’s very faithful which makes the dialogue difficult to decipher.

How’s the accent work throughout? Is it attempted at all with such a diverse cast?

The dialogue is all Shakespearean. That’s the reason I won’t say Denzel will automatically win. Since, not everyone likes it.
Yes, sometimes I didn’t understand what was said.

I don’t believe accents were used. Everyone used a neutral voice.
I forgot to say that Denzel and Frances should pair up again . If they would only write romances for their age group ..,

That’s a hindrance, maybe not for nominations but for wins for sure.

I don’t know if I can sit through the Shakespearean dialogue. Its gorgeous in segments…but an entire film. idk.

I’m sure people will have issues with the language. I didn’t mind that much due to the visuals.

He doesn’t have to be. He’s still a 2 time nominated beloved movie star, who hasn’t won…..and Will has a baity role in a crowd pleasing movie that more people will watch…..on top of getting amazing reviews. Will is ahead Denzel, imo.

I know he’s highly respected. But it’s crazy to think this will likely be Denzel’s 9th nomination.
