If the Academy Awards made the Acting categories just Lead and Supporting, with no split on gender, who would be nominated?
My take for 2020;
Best Acting For a Leading Role:
- Joaquin Phoenix, Joker
- Adam Driver, Marriage Story
- Renee Zellweger, Judy
- Scarlett Johansson, Marriage Story
- Leonardo DiCaprio, Once Upon a Time In Hollywood
Best Acting For a Supporting Role:
- Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
- Laura Dern, Marriage Story
- Scarlett Johansson, Jojo Rabbit
- Tom Hanks, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
- Margot Robbie, Bombshell
Thoughts?

I agree, but I can’t help my picks. Last year the actor categories were completely packed while the actress ones were extremely weak.
ReplyCopy URLApril 28, 2020 at 2:26 pm #1203452035I’d take Renee for Judy out of that but I’d rather snub one of the men and have Florence Midsommar in it too, still sad to see even small indie awards snubbed her work for the film.

And the woman last year were stronger but over looked.
Writing & Directing category is the reason it’s gendered (look at the grammys).April 28, 2020 at 2:29 pm #1203452041That would be terrible.

ReplyCopy URLApril 28, 2020 at 4:21 pm #1203452361Why are people against this idea? It would crowd too many people out, or do you believe there is an actual difference between a female and male acting performance?
ReplyCopy URLApril 29, 2020 at 8:48 pm #1203454432I think inevitably the men would have more nominees each year unfortunately. But I also do think that the current system is pretty exclusionary to non-binary actors.
