I hope the film shows the recruitment process as well. I want to see executions. I want to see the process of becoming a Dahomey Warrior. It was not pretty and I hope the film does not depict them as victims only. They had slaves as well and I hope the film does not stir away from that.

You really hit on something with the recruitment process. I’d love to see that. I don’t want pretty, and I know Viola doesn’t typically do that, anyway. I want them to go there!!

I have probably mentioned this before, but when I spoke to Mbedu about The Underground Railroad, she teased this film by revealing that Davis’ Nanisca tells Mbedu’s Nawi, “There is no place for tears here.” That line alone has me so hyped.

I wonder if Lupita backed out due to her already being in Black Panther and she’s playing a somewhat Dora Milaje? Black Panther should be wrapped before filming of The Woman King.

Lupita would’ve been great opposite Viola, but oh well. Maybe they will work together in the future.

It would have been iconic, but Thuso was AMAZING in the The Underground Railroad (and should have been nominated for the Emmy)…and she was fantastic in Is’Thunzi. I kind of like Viola leading a relatively unknown cast though.

Also Queen Viola’s career is not stopping between this and The First Ladies….I’m looking forward to her work the next couple of years.

I’m hoping this film is received well and makes some money because this will only help get more Black led big screen projects off the ground. I’d love to see Viola in a romance or straight up comedy.

You said it all in this post! I love the fact also that Queen Vee is leading a relatively unknown cast as well! I hope it makes money, too, in the process. We need more unique stories involving people that look like Viola and crew to be greenlit.

I’m just ecstatic to see Viola’s future projects as well! She has so many great things in development, as well,
what we know she’s about to start filming. As you stated, I do need a full blown comedy from her, though! Lol She can and would nail it!!

John Boyega is very talented. This cast smells of a Best Motion Picture Ensemble at SAG nomination already!
