i dont think she will ever win, sadly. The Academy just clearly don’t like her that much. I mean they only like her enough to nominate her. Shes the next Peter O’Toole basically. The Academy is just not as sentimental as we think they are. They just have their favourites like Streep. But not sentimental.

I think this argument is pretty stupid. (I like u tho)

The academy is not 5 or 100 persons. It’s like 9,000 people. I came to think that even though the members do vote, only the board of governors’ votes matter. So for me they’re the ones deciding for the winners.

Don’t come at me, if there is bribery and corruption in the educational system, the Oscars aren’t spared.

I hope after Close’s loss, the Academy will never ever award another overdue actor with a supposedly subpar and less impressive performance (à la Gary Oldman, Julianne Moore, Al Pacino) again! And I hope Close will knock her SB performance out of the ball park so that noone can say any shit about her next time! It’s just embarrassing for Close herself and her fans to follow this whole award season.

    I have a question.

Now that Glenn Close is the most overdue person ever in the history of Oscars, Do you think she can ever win an Oscar ?

I feel like the board of governors didn’t gave it to her because they feared some backlash, had Close won, people would have said «she has never won before, that’s why they gave it to her », which would have been pretty degrading for the image of the ceremony.

What will people say if she happens to be nominated Sunset Blvd ?

The overdue narrative will evidently work, and her momentum only if she takes the Globe Comedy. But do you think the same argument as « Oscars aren’t for career achievement » would be brought up again like many said here during this season ?

My faith is destroyed by the results of this year’s ceremony. They might actually be done nominating her despite whatever comes around the corner.

    I feel you so much.

I think if she wins some major critics circles awards and the Comedy Globe, she has the Oscar.

They will certainly not nominated her if she’s snubbed everywhere else. I guess we will have to wait but I’m confident that she only need some few critics awards and a GG to prevail at the Oscars.

And BAFTA too, don’t forget the lesson. If no English actress comes against her way, her overdue narrative will work at BAFTA too.

Everything lined up for her this year and she still lost.
Winning for a musical, which will be directed by somebody who has not proven himself in Hollywood, and for a role that’s iconic for Swanson (who did not win the Oscar; hence, the comparisons!) will be unlikely.

I said this numerous times and will repeat it: Glenn’s best shot is a supporting win.

I still can’t figure out how she lost this year. I mean like you’ve said, everything lined up for her to finally win.

She just didn’t lost the popular vote. I mean look at the GG and the SAG, she was like venerated and you gonna tell me these people didn’t vote for her at the Oscars!. No Jan this is insane, something else might have happened.

Olivia Colman is a Worthy winner, but this Oscar was Close’s.

On the other hand, I really think she has all her chances to finally win for SB. She won a Tony, the performance was acclaimed twice (the other for the revival)  it’s going to be her Swan Song at the Oscars, and people are pretty excited for that movie to get released not because they’re interested in it, but because they want her to have an Oscar.

Still on your “the election was rigged” soapbox, I see.

Still on your “the election was rigged” soapbox, I see.

I mean HARVEY Weinstein was known for corrupting this game, especially the Oscars… they’re not 100% real. If richs can manage to get their children into Presitige College, The board of governors can definitely change the vote to their convenience. It’s called corruption… Don’t be naive… We accepted Colman because she’s a worthy winner, but you there are some shadow zones.

9.000 persons can’t vote with the same logic, like for example we will vote for Elizabeth Taylor because she almost died, or we will vote for Jessica Lange because she can’t be ignored this particular year. It’s a small group of people that takes these decisions not the entire Academy.

And you can say that I’m dumb or whatever you want but, I assume they gave it to Colman because

    1. TF couldn’t go home empty-handed while movies like BR and BP was winning everything. ( Their Credibility )

    2. Winning over Close is somehow justified since she gave a widespread acclaimed performance

    3. Shit people were saying days before the show  “ it’s gonna be a career reward” this one particularly.

Close campaigned like no one else ever did, the odds were more than ever with her this year, her performance was acclaimed by every critic, she has visibility ( for the academy members who supposedly  didn’t know her).

Olivia Colman didn’t really campaign, but I’m aware her studio did the job for her.

Remember the year Russel Crowe was going to win back to back, he messed up like two weeks before the show, I doubt the entire Academy was like << oh no what a coward, I’m not going to vote for him>>. Denzel won and I’m perfectly fine with it. But I doubt he won because he got the most votes.

When you think about it, it’s even more logical. Hilary won the popular vote, but for some reasons she lost because of the Electoral College : Board of governors in this particular case.

    I’m done.

The next step for Close is the honorary Oscar. Push for it hard and accept it immediately after it’s offered.

Now Glenn Close is called bore? For being a great actress that never got her due? Has she said something controversial that I missed?
