Picture: Trial of chicago seven ( realize it won jack shit, but its the only one with a major award this season)
Director: Fennell
Actor: Boseman
Actress: Davis
Supporting Actor: Raci
Supporting Actress Bakalova
Adapted: Nomadland
Original: Trial of chicago 7

Screenplay+actor combo and the nature of being universally-liked made this film pretty much number two in this system.Director: Thomas Vinterberg
The passion of his film raised his chance to win.Actor: Chadwick Boseman
The narrative was strong, but not enough to defeat the performance of the year.Actress: Carrie Mulligan
The passion of the film made her quite a frontrunner alongside McDormand.Supporting Actor: Paul Raci
His film and performance were just so strong while Odom Jr’s film had no passion, Baron-Cohen’s chance died alongside the film and Stanfield’s vote were never as big since it’s surprising nod.Supporting Actress: Maria Bakalova
She’s the only precursor’s winner that made into the lineup (discounting AACTA). She’s also campaigning and the narrative of breakthrough of the year was also strong.Adapted: The White Tiger
The AMPAS was just so passionate about this film. It’s beautifully written and more conventional than Nomadland although the latter’s writing was also incredible.Original: Judas and the Black Messiah
While the writing might be the weak point of the film, no one could deny how passionate The AMPAS towards this film.ReplyCopy URL"The Lost Daughter" in every eligible category - Film

The Academy clearly loved the father, and if she had been BAFTA nominated the film’s late surge could’ve made her competitive. BAFTA voters definitely resented not being able to vote for her anyway. Bakalova clearly didn’t have the support some anticipated and CC doesn’t disprove that & Close was just a name check.

Definitely. Could feel the groundswell for this one growing throughout the season and the night. Its two wins convince me. I imagine PYW was third, after that no clue.
Director – David Fincher
I just feel like he was a solid second throughout, although this is less clear cut. The cinematography surprise suggests to me Mank was a tad more popular than we thought and I think that category is closely tied to how people see Directing. Zhao was the winner by a country mile, though.
Actor – Chadwick Boseman
Soderbergh and co. not happy about this one.
Actress – Viola Davis
No clue on this one, obviously.
Supp. Actor – Paul Raci
Sound of Metal did really well, and Chicago getting nothing and Odom Jr. not even winning for song makes me think Raci was a distant second.
Supp. Actress – Olivia Colman
They loved The Father. This is another tight one, but I felt Borat’s steam run out in quite a big way, and I think the sentiment with Close was clearly that she couldn’t get it for Elegy.
Original Screenplay – The Trial of the Chicago 7
I suspect this was relatively close to wins here and in editing. Have a sneaky feeling Judas may not have been far behind, but Sorkin gets votes.
Adapted Screenplay – Nomadland
The other three here had little to no love and passion behind them.

It lost the BAFTA but it had an overwhelming amount of passion and growing support (see Hopkins’ win). Had it premiered in January it might have even won. It was always going to be top 5.
Director – Not sure.
Actor – Chadwick Boseman, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
Clear runner up.
Actress – Carey Mulligan, Promising Young Woman
McDormand’s win proved how important visibility was. My guess is that either of Davis (with her SAG win and Ma Rainey’s multiple nominations) or Mulligan (whose film was top 3 in Picture, won a significant award and won a significant BAFTA) were second and they were within touching distance.
Supporting Actress – Olivia Colman, The Father
Supporting Actor – Paul Raci, Sound of Metal
Original Screenplay – The Trial of the Chicago 7 (Sound of Metal might have been creeping though)
Adapted Screenplay – NomadlandReplyCopy URLFYC:

The Trial of the Chicago 7The FatherApril 26, 2021 at 5:46 am #1204228399Picture: The Father for sure, although I feel like Mank actually could have done better than the bottom half here.
Director: Fincher because he is Fincher. But honestly the race for second was probably close and the other three could have been close to second.
Actor: Chadwick Boseman.
Actress: Carey Mulligan, since I feel the population who didn’t vote for McDormand a.k.a. copy the BAFTAs probably voted for her.
Supporting Actor: Paul Raci, since it seemed like a lot of people really enjoyed his performance.
Supporting Actress: Glenn Close. Although we knew she wasn’t going to win, there had to have been enough Close stans in the voting field to give her 2nd.
OG Screenplay: Sorkin for Chicago 7.
Adapted Screenplay: Zhao for Nomadland since it won Picture. However I think Borat Subsequent Moviefilm may have fared a lot better in this category than most people think.
Animated Feature: Wolfwalkers, but it was probably nowhere near the number of votes Soul got.
International Feature Film: Quo Vadis, Aida? which gained a lot of traction right around the time of voting and which I feel could have pulled a major upset against Another Round.
Documentary Feature: Time, since I think it still had a lot of love behind it.
Documentary Short: A Love Song for Latasha…? I have no idea.
Live Action Short: The Letter Room.
Animated Short: Burrow, but If Anything Happens had to have won by a mile.
Original Score: Emile Mosseri for Minari, since I doubt anyone who wanted to vote for Reznor/Ross would vote for Mank.
Original Song: Honestly all of them except “Hear My Voice” had to have been close, but I think “Husavik” might have been second…
Best Sound: Soul, but SoM won by a mile.
Production Design: Undoubtedly The Father.
Cinematography: Richards for Nomadland.
Makeup/Hairstyling: Mank? Maybe? I’ve no idea…
Costume Design: Emma..
Editing: Nomadland or maybe The Father.
Visual Effects: The One and Only Ivan
