Since her appearence in Flesh and Bone (1993) where she was runner up at NSFC during the 90s and until 2001 she had incredible career working with some amazing directors (Anthony Minghella, Paul Tomas Anderson, David Fincher, Wes Anderson, James Ivory, Alfonso Cuaron etc), and certainly was Hollywood darling. She was great in a career best work in Shakespeare in Love, was great in Ripley but after 2001 Royal Tannenbaums her career went downhill rapidly (she was great in Proof though). Today, she was not even in consideration to be one of the best actresses of her generations. She doesnt seem to care anymore.

What are your thoughts on her?August 11, 2020 at 12:17 pm #1203640173She was an it girl wholly engineered on us as the next best thing. She’s actually quite good depending on the part as was the cast with The Royal Tenenbaums. I’m fine with her Oscar win considering she has no followup nod. And Blanchett is a two time winner approaching the double digits soon enough in nod count.

Couldn’t have said it better myself! Though, I did prefer Montenegro in ’98 🙂
ReplyCopy URLAugust 11, 2020 at 1:27 pm #1203640294She’s a very good actress. And she gets criticized far too often.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 11, 2020 at 2:02 pm #1203640359She makes all her characters feel authentic and like a decent person, and in my eyes that is a mark of a good actor.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 11, 2020 at 2:24 pm #1203640406She’s a good actress but comes across as an annoying person. I don’t feel any particular way about her. I think she’s gotten her fair share of praise and criticism.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 11, 2020 at 2:40 pm #1203640434She is good and can be great when the material suits her i.e. The Royal Tenenbaums and Shakespeare in Love (which I think she deserved to win, I do prefer Montenegro, but I think she’s better than Blanchett).
ReplyCopy URLAugust 11, 2020 at 2:42 pm #1203640436I’ve only seen her in a couple of things but she has this energy and presence that is very captivating and endearing. It’s like you root for her (or the character) the moment you see her on screen. I recently watched Ripley and she’s terrific in it. Definitely nomination worthy. I find myself still thinking about her performance and a few of her scenes weeks later.

ReplyCopy URLAugust 11, 2020 at 3:19 pm #1203640534for real tho, she’s a good actress who can deliver fine work with appropriate material. ofc her range is limited and couldn’t do much like in her avengers role (but what else could anyway)
i think many of her criticisms besides her oscar win (which should be directed to harvey’s eager) is mostly her obnoxious attitude with her brand like she’s specialist in any of the products she tries to sell.
still, i feel happy fernanda’s performance been recognized more and more around here. hopefully that would bring more awareness to her work in general since thats not even her best performance
ReplyCopy URLAugust 11, 2020 at 3:29 pm #1203640557Montenegro was robbed, not Blanchett.
Exactly. Montenegro was simply outstanding in Central Station(which also should’ve won foreign film).
ReplyCopy URLAugust 11, 2020 at 4:53 pm #1203640696She is pretty great actress, and normally elevates material, the problem is that her public persona overshadowed her talent. I can see her getting a role in her 60’s or 70’s n winning again.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 11, 2020 at 5:15 pm #1203640742I can admit that she’s a decent actress. That’s the only nice thing I will say about the ice princess. Winona Ryder should’ve cussed her out, back in the day.
