Jojo won? Damn it. We should have expected it though after Green Book and Three Billboards the previous years.

Almost every film got a standing ovation. Because the Director and talent is present at the screening. If none of those people were present at Official screenings of these films, more than half of these films wouldn’t even get a slow clap. If Beale Street is an emotional, feel-good film. That’s why it placed as runner-up. That’s the type of films TIFF audiences love. The only buzz any of these films have gotten until now, is from critics. Today is the first day general audiences will weigh in. And Marriage Story is no ROMA. Not even close. Not the acclaim, not the level of buzz and hype, not the awards prospects. So just stop.

Marriage Story first runner-up. Parasite second.

How many of you are actually at TIFF? I don’t understand the backlash at Jojo Rabbit from people on this forum.

These Marriage Story predictions are just as pretentious as the people who are positioning it as the second coming of Christ. IT IS NOT A CROWD-PLEASER! IT’S A CRITICS FILM. It is not uplifting, and also not the type of film you can pop in the dvd at home with your family, and they will all generally like it. Hidden Figures, Slumdog Millionaire, Green Book, etc….are crowd-pleasers. Marriage Story, Boyhood, Carol and The Favourite are critics films. Not crowd-pleasers

In your face!! You failed this prediction Just like foi will fail Joaquin Phoenix getting best actor at the Oscars

Go Taika! Love all his movies, i knew not to believe mean-spitited critics, some of who were outright nasty and personal in their reviews.
I don’t know abour Oscar chances, but people liked the movie.

Last year Beale Street failed to get nomination

    But JoJo is 90% sure

Call me mad, but since a lot of people LOVE JOJO RABBIT and a lot of people don’t like it, I guess some of my money is on JOJO… Those who don’t like the movie can’t vote against JOJO, so I believe lovers will push hard for this one. I don’t predict a “clean” win, but I believe it can get a runner-up place.
    Right now, my predictions are:
    #1 – WAVES
    #2 – JOJO RABBIT
    #3 – PARASITE
#4 – A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
    #5 – MARRIAGE STORY

I know I predicted a 1st runner-up spot for JOJO RABBIT, but like I said: you can’t vote AGAINST a movie and JOJO was loved by a lot of people
