You and me both! It’s a very niche film. Hopefully it’s selected as the Dutch entry to Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. I feel like that’s the most it could be rewarded for if it’s received well. It got a great reception at Locarno.

Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)September 4, 2019 at 1:49 pm #1203057896Didn’t see a post for Toronto so I thought I’d make one since it’s upon us. This is my most anticipated film festival by far, and we all know the importance of its audience award. 90% of the winners at TIFF over the course of this last decade have gone on to get a best picture nomination at the Oscars, 54% of named films (including runners up) since 2010 have gone on to get a best picture nomination, and that number goes up to 60% if you look at the last five years.
The festival runs from 9/5/19 to 9/15/19. Here are some of the big contenders for reference:
The Personal History of David Copperfield
Just Mercy
Portrait of a Lady on Fire
Pain and Glory
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Knives Out
Hustlers
Dolemite Is My Name
The Lighthouse
Parasite
The Aeronauts
The Report
The Goldfinch
Marriage Story
Jojo Rabbit
A Hidden Life
Ford v Ferrari
The Laundromat
Joker
Uncut Gems
The Two Popes
Harriet
Judy
Motherless Brooklyn
Honey Boy
Waves
Lucy in the Sky
ClemencyI’m excited to see how the race shapes up after.
