I don’t know if there is a forum for this, and it’s kinda hard to try to find out because the search thing doesnt really work 🥴, but if there is, I guess you can just move this into it.
Anyway, as the title suggests, what award races do y’all think should’ve ended in ties.
One that stands out to me is Toni Collette in Hereditary and Olivia Colman in The Favourite. It’s so hard for me to pick one or the other. On the one hand, Collette has to do an accent and act possessed and act hysterical, plus she’s in more of the film than Colman is in hers. But Colman also acts hysterical and there isn’t one scene that wouldnt be a worthy Oscar tape, whereas Collette isn’t always doing something.
It’s just so hard to choose and I think they both gave all-time great performances, so a tie would’ve been great. Obviously if Collette had been nominated at the Oscars lol. But I also would’ve liked a tie at Critics Choice for these two as well.

I could even have tolerated a three-way draw with Atonement!
(And I know that’s a controversial take! I love that year’s film’s though. I just wish Michael Clayton had been swapped with American Gangster and Juno had been swapped with Zodiac.)

Was that even allowed? Before the preferential ballot, would this have been possible?

the directors deserve a tie as well… Coen brothers tie with PTA. It’s sad that to this day PTA still doesn’t have an Oscar for directing.

~Currently watching Abbott ElementarySeptember 9, 2021 at 11:28 pm #1204447802This is fun, of course, but, tbh, I’ve never felt there should be Oscar ties, not least because it wreaks havoc with Oscar pools. 🙂
The fact that the first official Oscar tie, in which Fredric March (who topped the Best Actor tally a single vote, and my pick of the nominees) had to share the honor with Wallace Beery (rounded up, as allowed by the rules at the time), has always rankled, too 😉
