Why do you think your opinion is so special that it deserves its own thread? Seriously

It’s no more redundant than a “Could Bradley Cooper beat Keaton and Redmayne?” thread when we have a Best Actor thread.  Or a “Birdman Won All the Guilds… Could it Win Best Picture?” when we have a Best Picture Thread.  And it’s certainly no more redundant than one of those “Are We Underestimating So-and-So?” threads that always happen.  Why not have a separate thread to discuss a third party that could surprise in a lot of categories?

I agree that Whiplash was far better than Birdman or Boyhood, and it certainly has its supporters. It is topping the Goldderby rankings, based on the grades I’ve recieved, and I’m finding that to be more and more my preffered top 10.

And both Boyhood and Birdman are pretty divisive.  With the preferential ballot…  could the battle between the two films split voters enough to allow Whippy or TGBH to emerge victorious?

Sure, it could just be me making everything more complicated than is.  But it’s just something to think about…

Why do you think your opinions are so special to deserve their own GoldDerby account? #deep

In all seriousness Whiplash is the Best Picture nominee of the year. Miles Teller was miles better than Carell, Cooper or Cumberbatch and on the same level of intensity of Keaton and Redmayne. His snub stings. The Chazelle snub is also pretty sad but I’m glad he was at least recognized by the writers branch.

The title of this thread just made me way too happy… While I liked “Birdman” a lot more than “Whiplash”, I would love to see anything and I mean anything beat that dreadful gimmick “boyhood” for Best Pic and “Whiplash” would be a lovely surprise. It is a very good film indeed.

You mean it wasn’t?  Then why was I so turned on throughout the whole thing?

    Don’t scare me.

There’s a pretty good chance Whiplash ends up with the most wins. It’s already a lock for Supporting Actor. Adapted Screenplay, Editing, and Sound Mixing are all strong bets.

Haha I wouldn’t be a fan of TGBH winning BP either.  I thought it was technically brilliant, and everything about it was stunning and unique and adorable and charming and clever.  But that story/plot was like zzzZZzzZzzzz…

If Whiplash doesn’t take film editing, there is no justice in this world!

Melissa Benoist prevented this film from being the best of anything this year.

    J.K. Simmons rocked tho.

Agreed about the editing. It deserves the win, and I’m really hoping it happens. That BAFTA win was so delightful.
