I’m personally shocked she got nominated for the film, and I was also dismissive of her chances when I first read the reports of some of her famous friends rallying around her and the film. Has anyone seen the film, and do you think her performance is deserving of a nomination? I heard that she is quite good in it. I’ll rent it in Prime later.

If the acting industry can do this for her, I don’t see why they don’t do this more often moving forward.

I just love movies. And awards.

She’s definitely worthy of a nomination imo. The controversy isn’t really around performance but how it came about and what that meant for other equally strong contenders that were subsequently pushed out, who were POC.

Gwyneth Paltrow hosted a screening for the “masterpiece of a film” and said Riseborough deserves “to win every award there is and all the ones that haven’t been invented yet.” In a Q&A she moderated, Kate Winslet called Riseborough’s work “one of the greatest performances I have ever seen in my life”. Even though we had a lot of support, the idea it might actually happen seemed so far away.” I have nothing against her and can’t comment on her performance because I haven’t seen the film. But her comment is disingenuous considering the support she had from A-list friends. It’s worth noting Andrea and some of her supporters (Aniston, Paltrow and Winslet) are all represented by a very powerful talent agency (CAA). i think you should check back what the meaning of campaign is …. To Leslie team did the smart thing in Oscar campaign history …..at the end of the day, you should campaign for voters… not campaigning for me, for you or for the fans

there’s no reason you called it specious , cheated or what ever it is, she campaigned for voters and voters like it….why not …

why people here think all the movies or performances have to do certain process from regional critics to Oscar??,,,,while you actually can do direct campaign to Oscar voters…but with one note that reviewers and public love your work
