Every second film gets a standing ovation these days. Especially premiers (ask Rocketman) But yes, the film will be good.

if a film can’t match Pan’s Labyrinth’s 22-minute Standing O it’s weak sauce to me. The bar is high at Cannes for that indicator / nothing has come close so so far.

22 minutes? I can’t understand standing ovations. Personally, I hate 22 minutes of crazy people clapping/making noise for you/me

Well, just came back from watching Top Gun: Maverick and I absolutely loved it. The perfect movie experience for cinemas and so much fun.

It has a strong message about second chances and how we are never too old to live the life we want to live and be our best version. It’s going to hit hard with older audiences for sure. The action scenes are AMAZING. And the ending is great, very emotional. My best friend, who I’ve never seen him cry with a movie in cinemas, cried the whole last 10 minutes. Several other people clapping, cheering and crying too.

I’m predicting picture, actor, cinematography, editing, sound and song nominations for the oscars. Wouldn’t be surprise if Kosinski makes the cut too. Miles Teller and Jennifer Connelly were amazing in supporting roles, but it is Tom Cruise’s show (and my favorite performance from him since Magnolia)

    Watched the film.

Standout: Editing, visual effects, ensemble, sound and score.

Negatives: unrealistic at times (mainly in the last 20 mins) but that’s a part and parcel of such a film, right?

    Grade: A

Great film, highly enjoyable! (Some of the dialogue was a bit meh but who cares). As far as awards go I would give it Sound and Original Song nominations, maybe Editing and Visual Effects – depending on what comes later this year.

Will be interested to see whether Paramount pushes for Babylon or Top Gun. Former is the obvious Oscar choice but Top Gun is the blockbuster movie Academy likes to embrace then and now

damn this movie definitely lived up to its hype, one of the best sequels ever, and Cruise continues to hold his fort moreso than ever

Sound & Song are locked w Cinematography, Editing, & Score close and Picture a possibility depending on the legs this film will hold throughout

Saw it last night and definitely think people are conflicting a good action film to being a good movie when it was just competently made and emotionally manipulative at times. I see this film as no different than a MCU movie.

^ It’s way better than an MCU movie cause you see they put their heart into this film. Screenplay, visual effects, cinematography, editing, sound, music, EVERYTHING was better than an MCU movie it’s not even comparable.

I enjoyed this movie so much. Movie of the summer and one of the best of the year right there with Everything Everywhere All at Once. It was so emotional I wasn’t ready for that. And the action sequences… WOW! Practical VFX are so much better than CGI (only Avatar is the exception). It was so realistic! Tom Cruise was at his best since Vanilla Sky no doubt. Jennifer Connely is so underrated, she’s fantastic! And the sound and music stay in your skin hours after the movie’s end. And that Lady Gaga song at the end was just perfect.

I can see so many Oscar nominations for this film.

Editing, Sound, Visual Effects, Song… Picture? Actor????

The Academy is not the biggest fans of sequels, but with those numbers, this would be so locked for Picture if it were a September release.
