The Tribeca Film Festival will open its 2015 edition with the world premiere of “Live from New York!,” director Bao Nguyen’s documentary that chronicles the 40-year-history of “Saturday Night Live.”

The movie, which combines archival footage with interviews with “SNL” cast members, crew and hosts as well as journalists and other talking heads, aims to trace the evolution and influence of the show over its 800 episodes. The film’s selection as the opener of the 14th annual Tribeca festival coincides with the longrunning series’ 40th anniversary.

Nguyen recently produced “2030,” the Vietnamese scifi tale that recently screened as part of the Berlin International Film Festival, as well as “Once in a Lullaby,” the documentary that premiered as part of Tribeca in 2012. His next movie, “In the Shadow of the Hills,” was part of Tribeca’s All Access Program in 2014.

JL Pomeroy and Tom Broecker produce “Live from New York!”

The 2015 Tribeca Film Festival runs April 15-26, with the fest’s full slate of features set to be announced in early March.
