Often times, nominees/winners can get a lot of hate for not feeling deserved. sometimes I feel that the hate is not deserved and the film is actually good. What are some films that are like this for you? For me, I think dances with wolves is a great film and got to much hate for beating Goodfellas.

I would say Ordinary People and Chicago for this one. They’re both deserving Best Picture winners that people only hate because they beat films they liked more (coincidentally a Martin Scorsese film was in both lineups).

What’s the film that people think should’ve beaten Chicago? (The best of that five by a country like for me)

Jojo Rabbit is severely overhated here… but absolutely beloved outside of this forum. Brilliant screenplay and direction from Waititi

People/Critics are stupid enough to hate this movie simply for Goofy Hitler/Nazi mockery ignoring the essence of the movie

Best Actress: Kristen Stewart, Thomasin McKenzie, Rooney Mara, Tessa Thompson

The Pianist, I assume. That film got tons of critic praise and is in the imdb top 50 films of all time.

Lord of the Rings has a passionate fan base so I’ll assume those people (?). The Pianist is also excellent but Chicago deserved its BP win.

Underrated: Secrets & Lies, In the Bedroom, Sideways, Good Night, and Good Luck, Babel, Atonement, A Serious Man, Amour, Up, Boyhood, Brooklyn, Fences. Whenever people give flack to The Shape of Water or Spotlight, it really gets on my nerves.

Imo when the Academy expanded from 5 nominees, much shittier films started getting in but the winners started to get better…..in the last 6 years, only Green Book‘s win is completely unjustifiable to me.

Justice for Passing, Tessa Thompson & Ruth Negga.

The Power of the Dog / Jane Campion / Benedict Cumberbatch / Kristen Stewart / Kirsten Dunst / Troy Kotsur

The Turning Point, Norma Rae, The Killing Field, Mississippi Burning, The Godfather Part III, In The Bedroom, Babel, The Reader, The Tree of Life, Amour, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Her, Philomena.

    FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All At Once
    Tang Wei, Decision To Leave

James Hong & Jamie Lee Curtis, Everything Everywhere All At Once

Most of these are underrated rather than overhated:

American Hustle, Amour, Babe, The Descendants, Erin Brockovich, Marriage Story (all I hear is about how this and AH aged hard but both are masterpieces imo), Moonstruck, Philomena, Precious, Winter’s Bone

People hate on Shape of Water too much. And Vice is quite good in my opinion

I actually like Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. You may punch me now.

Edit: And yeah, Three Billboards which I yet again forgot because I’m always thinking that it’s such a universally beloved classic until I enter this forum.

Green Book is far too overhated. I personally really enjoyed it and I can understand why it won best picture.
