Will Smith in King Richard… he’s literally the same in every dramatic movie and was the least deserving of all the nominees.
It became even clearer that it was a starpower/career win when he got up there completely out of it and not his usual self. It felt like there was so little justifying the win in that moment.

And “The Departed” best picture win from a year earlier as well. We all know that movie won because of the “Marty is overdue for best picture” narrative and nothing else. I like the movie, but best picture was too much.

i don’t know if it is a loved performance, but I have never seen much criticism of Sean Connery’s win. I love that he is an Oscar-winner actor, but his accent is terrible in “Untouchables”.

How can someone take the Academy seriously after this…

Sure, let’s pretend that this is a universally loved win.

July 30, 2022 at 2:07 pm #1205029963Sean Penn for both his wins.
Murray was in the better film and he had basically won everything he needed like bafta, globe and all the critics awards. Depp even won sag over penn which was awesome. But yeah Murray just overall had the better and more iconic performance.

Also Penn beating Rourke was stupid as well. Penn played the most boring Oscar bait role I have ever seen and Rourke had the biggest comeback known to man and blew it out of the park. Rourke also won Bafta, globe and all the critics groups but still lost.July 30, 2022 at 2:17 pm #1205029973Forrest Gump. It was a Worldwide success. The World loved Forrest Gump. It seems it’s lost a lot 28 years later. I read a lot of people in Social Media especially Twitter bashing the movie and Tom Hanks. The case of Tom Hanks is really interesting. Hanks was The Biggest Star in The World. But it seems The Younger Generations don’t like him

Phoenix is one of the most versatile actors. Walk the Line, You were never really here, gladiator, her and of course, the master are all better than Joker, even though joker was a great performance.
