2020 was a great year for film. It allowed more unique and indie gems to explode in the mainstream like The Assistant, Shirley and Never Rarely Sometimes Always.
Although Hillbilly Elegy and Ammonite were quite shit.
January 10, 2021 at 5:54 pm #1203975228Let’s keep expressing how we feel. 2020 films sucked!
You said it sis. Basic-ness at its finest. And all these glowing praises and gushes by the fonts here are hilarious.
January 10, 2021 at 5:57 pm #1203975234This board needs to learn that almost all of the performances being discussed are great ones. People here are so quick to say an actor is “bad” and speak in such exaggerated, unkind, reductionist superlatives.

January 10, 2021 at 7:13 pm #1203975344Joaquin Phoenix was excellent in Joker but the movie was absolutely atrocious. I’m glad it only won Actor and Original Score (the only two elements of the film it was worthy of Oscars for).
January 10, 2021 at 11:25 pm #1203975554Gary Oldman, Delroy Lindo and Riz Ahmed are all better than Chadwick Boseman. Those three men all gave better performances in their respective films this season
Anticipate "Hold My hand".

January 11, 2021 at 12:50 am #1203975602I hate that before COVID,box office successes either came from franchises or Award buzz.
January 11, 2021 at 3:17 am #1203975660<p style=”text-align: left;”>Bad Times at the El Royale should have been an awards player with Erivo nominated for best supporting actress. Say what you want about her but she ACTED in that film. I saw it in cinema before I knew it’s reviews and was so surprised by how unaffected most people seemed, I thought it was incredible.</p>
More chaotic than a soderbergh Oscars
January 11, 2021 at 3:38 am #1203975674When people disagree with another’s predictions or thoughts on a race here they need to stop using the ridiculously childish and patronising “stanning” and “wishful thinking” argument. At one point someone will be accused of basing their whole Oscar lineup on “stanning” even though they haven’t seen all the films.
January 11, 2021 at 7:52 am #1203976120Idk where else to post this and it’s probably not unpopular but: The whole narrative shit needs to stop. An award should go to the most deserving performer of that year. If they didn’t win for a very good role because there was an even better one: so be it. Stop nominating and having people win because they “deserve to win at least once” well guess what a lot of people do and they’ll survive if there isn’t a little gold statue of some sort in their multi-million dollar house being praised anyways if they’re great, living their dream of acting for a living and being in that tiny group of people who get to do that. I just get annoyed at “narratives” winning over “performances”.
Emmy FYC:
Better Call Saul in all categories.
Especially Rhea Seehorn, Bob Odenkirk, Writing, Drama Series.
January 11, 2021 at 8:03 am #1203976153My unpopular opinion is: Viola still unbothered. đź‘€
Pantheon of acting: Uta / Elizabeth / Richard / Sandy (Virginia Woolf), Bibi / Liv (Persona), Sandrine (La Ceremonie), Brie (Short Term 12), Jodie (Silence of the Lambs), Jodie (Killing Eve), Nicole (The Others), Eva (Penny Dreadful), Timothée (CMBYN), Lupita (Us)
January 11, 2021 at 10:07 am #1203976430Timothée Chalamet was outstanding in CMBYN but all his following performances were weak.
Nomadland is the most overrated movie of the year, an average Sundance-like filmmaking.
Jodie Comer supremacy
FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION: Our Flag Means Death, Severance in all categories;

Erivo, Bridges and particularly Pullman KILLED. The sets and cinematography were also deserving.

That’s not unpopular.
CMBYN’s greatness and Chalamet’s performance depends mainly on Guadagnino’s direction and Ivory’s screenplay. Why are you reporting this post? (optional):Not now
