Not sure about how unpopular this is but wow at Meryl in Let Them All Talk. Probably her best performance since Bridges of Madison County.

Widows deserved Oscar nominations (and possibly wins) for McQueen and Kaluuya, but nothing else. The script was not that tight, and I was not impressed by anyone else in the cast. But McQueen’s direction was incredible and Kaluuya’s performance was the definition of scene stealer. The way he should be winning his second or third with Judas, not first.

I still think that Widows should have been an all-around player with nominations in Picture, Actress, Supporting Actress (Debicki), Supporting Actor (Kaluuya) and Editing and a win for Adapted Screenplay. But yeah, McQueens direction is sick in here. Shooting the entire car dialogue scene with Colin Farrell from outside the car to suggest how far his political tactics are distanced from what the people he’s supposed to represent actually need might be one of the most intelligent and innovative directorial decisions of 2018.

After watching Small Axe recently I actually think that Widows is McQueen’s finest work because of how subtly and cleverly it interweaves its thrilling plot and sociopolitical message.

    FYC:

Lead Actor: Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round)

Supporting Actress: Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm)

Supporting Actor: Paul Raci (Sound of Metal)

I haven’t seen Let Them All Talk, but your quote makes me want to see it!

Not an unpopular opinion but don’t where else to post.

Prime having films from two Riverdale stars (Goree in Miami, Apa in Songbird) front and centre on the homepage and one being an Oscar frontrunner and another being a Razzie frontrunner, respectively, is hilarious.

I need to see this! It doesn’t even have a distributor here.

While the number of nominations is a different matter, in terms of wins and losses, I agree with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar record.

Leslie Odom-Jr. is excellent in One Night in Miami but I wasn’t wowed by his performance. It felt a bit overhyped. I was more impressed by Aldis Hodge.

I think it’s unpopular because a lot of derbites have seen how panned the film is in terms of missing critics awards, so they’ve discounted her performance. That being said, I completely agree–although I haven’t seen Adaptation and some other films that she has done since Bridges. Streep is at the top of her game in LTAT and it’s one of the best performances of the year. Completely underrated.

FYC: Michaela Coel and Rosamund Pike

Jackie is a phenomenal film and deserved more at the 2016 Oscars. The directing is so phenomenally intimate, painful, and claustrophobic, and the score is so dread-inducing. Natalie Portman’s phenomenal but that isn’t unpopular.

I would put Jackie up there with Arrival, La La Land, Moonlight, Silence, and Your Name as one of the masterpieces of 2016. It deserves to be praised so much more than just as a film about one performance that is a little “tricky”. It is a modern masterpiece, and does things with biopic formulas that are so much more bold and electrifying.

It deserved its nominations for Best Actress, Score, and Costume Design, but I think a Cinematography, Original Screenplay, Production Design, Director, and Picture nomination would also all be deserving.

    For Your Consideration:

    Best Picture: Wolfwalkers

    Best Animated Feature: Wolfwalkers

Emma Stone didn’t deserve to win for La La Land over Isabelle Huppert…

Back in 2019, Toni Collette should have been nominated for Best Actress in Oscars. Olivia was better than Gaga, Close, McCarthy and Aparicio, but no way she was better that Collette.

Jennifer Lawrence performance in American Hustle was the single worst performance i’ve ever seen. It was overrated, overdone, over the top, and disgusting. I don’t know why people find this Oscar worthy, more like a Golden Turkey or Razzie worthy performance to me.

A Star is Born (2018) is actually quite a good film and well executed. Even if I personally found Gaga to be a bit overrated.

this is a pretty popular opinion. thinking that Stone deserved her little hold man would be the unpopular opinion.

He should have won for The Wolf of Wall Street.
