I truly do not understand how Louise Fletcher won an Oscar for “Cukoo’s Nest.”

One of, if not the worst win in the Best Actress category EVER!!!

She does however have the best speech ever.

Gwyneth Paltrow was quite good. Her win draws criticism because of the relative strength of her competition and the love for Cate Blanchett and Emily Watson in their respective roles. Shakespeare in Love was also a fantastic movie and deserved its Best Picture win.

I hope this isn’t an unpopular opinion…HOW THE HELL DID JASON ROBARDS WIN AN OSCAR FOR HIS PERFORMANCE IN JULIA? This has to be one of the worst decisions of all time.
Also..Maximilian Schel and Alec Guiness also getting a nominations that year? This must be a joke, none of the performances are worthy.I’m speechless, this has to be the worst lineup I’ve seen yet.

I’ve always found the female acting categories more interesting than the male ones. Almost always I don’t really care about the male ones. I guess that is maybe because men are not “socially allowed”, if you will, to have the range women can have, and masculinity is the only acceptable thing that should come out of a male performance, unless it’s a gay character, lol.

The female acting categories are more interesting because the discussion boards on those are where all the b*tch fights and cattiness happens. lmao.

I was banned for unspecified reasons. Bye, Goldderby. Thank you, next!

We’re not peaceful in those ones, that’s for sure.

Roma is pretentious and not worthy of all the praise it got- the cinematography and acting was good but The Favourite was robbed of Best Director and should have won Best Cinematography too.

Fernanda Montenegro was the real best actress of 1998

I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion but I recently rewatched The Fighter and, though I’ve never been his biggest fan, Mark Wahlberg honestly deserved a Best Actor nomination. He was definitely the most understated and subtle in the film, but I was really affected by his performance. Really impressive. I hope he goes back to doing dramas like that instead of his lame action movies.

Agree, he was subtle while Bale and Leo were overacting their way to Oscar glory, two talented actors who won for terrible performances in the same film.

Everyone in What They Had deserved better runs this awards season. Blythe Danner was sublime, Robert Forster was moving, Michael Shannon was incredible, and Hilary Swank delivered her best performance in years.

Likewise, Stephan James and Colman Domingo were robbed of nominations for If Beale Street Could Talk.

All of the 1975 Supporting Actress nominees should have been performances from Nashville.

I love The Goodbye Girl and Julia too. This was a great year. The Turning Point is like a lost film. I saw it on cable as a kid but I don’t think I got the full meaning of it. TCM, Criterion? Are you out there?
