Anyone else feel that 2019 is abnormally weak? I feel as if this time last year, there were tons of mid-year Oscar worthy projects in the ether, but this year, I can only think of Once Upon A Time in Hollywood so far and a few festival players coming out this fall…

The independent film scene isn’t usually this weak and all the big studios are churning out franchise/remake garbage left and right

Darling, it won’t be weaker than last year. It was pure rubbish, rubbish and more rubbish.

I expected this response. Vikander felt more borderline than Mara imo. Mara was like drop dead lead, Vikander could go either way.

I think they’re both lead. The only reason I’d say Blanchett felt more lead to me is because the movie is literally named Carol. Either way, Mara would have made a hell of a lot better winner than Vikander. She gave one of my favorite performances of the decade.

Abbie Cornish is actually bad in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri.

Darling, literally EVERYONE is bad in that rubbish. Only Harrelson has decency.

This isn’t unpopular. The two stans that still follow her career after claiming she was the second coming of Cate Blanchett in 2009 are the only ones that didn’t find her performance to be laughable, especially with the inconsistent accent.

Lol wait, she wasn’t supposed to have that accent? I forreal thought some random Missouri sheriff was supposed to have a British wife and blamed that nonsense on the screenplay lol. I honestly don’t know why I like the film; I hate everyone’s acting outside of McDormand and Dinklage, and I find the screenplay so messy.

Cate Blanchett should have won for Classy Carol.

Darling, Rooney Mara should have won Lead Actress, even though Blanchett was pure class.

Let’s be real. Cate Blanchett outacted Rooney Mara.

We all know she only lost because she had won her #2 with Blue Jasmine too recently. Otherwise she would (and should) have won easily.

    That performance was pure art.

Cate should have two Lead Actress Oscars. Either for Elizabeth/Blue Jasmine or Blue Jasmine/Carol. Her supporting, non-sweeping win for Aviator feels cheap compared to these masterful leading performances.

The ending of The Shape of Water would have been flawless if it wasn’t for Giles useless speech. They should have just let the beauty of the visuals, music and wordless performances speak for themselves

I don’t even understand why they made Giles omniscient in the first place

Darlings, thinking Bore deserved the Oscar for The Borife should be diagnosed as dementia.
