I think King did a great job as a SUPPORTING character. However I do not understand why so many critics showered her with awards while neglecting the whole rest of the film.
If they fell in love with, then certainly there were other aspects in the piece worth of noticing (it deserved a best picture nom over 3 or 4 of the nominees).

Anyway, her win doesnt bother me, it was fine, but I dont get where this overwhelming acclaim is coming from

Sienna Miller is an underrated actress who should’ve gotten 3 Oscar noms by now for Factory Girl, American Sniper, and American Woman

Don’t have the energy to explain the politics of the supporting categories relying on prestige movies over quality work in more commercial fare. But King was not the best supporting actress in Ray, Sharon Warren is.

Your opinion of course. I think Regina had more to work with which would have been in her favor as well. She played a sexy, addicted, talented, heartbroken women and funny woman while Warren played the stressed mother. I personally would have nominated both but I prefer King.

Of the Harry Potter trio, Rupert Grint (Ron) is by far the best actor. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson are both painfully mediocre.

Kathy Bates deserved an Oscar nomination if not a win for Dolores Claiborne, Primary Colors and a nomination for Midnight In Paris…. I know this ain’t really unpopular.

She has a chance at her elusive 4th nomination for Eastwood’s Richard Jewell. She plays the title character’s mother Bobbi Jewell.

It’s sad how the movies relegated Ron to the back in the later movies. Even as a kid, Grint had impeccable comedic timing. I very much enjoyed Watson’s performance in the first film but after that, her character became more Emma Watson than Hermione Granger. The same thing happened in Beauty and the Beast and in Little Women as well from the looks of it. Radcliffe was serviceable in the first few films and wildly inconsistent later on. His infamous ‘HE WAS THEIR FRIEND!’ moment still cringes me out.

Regardless of how I see them now, they’ll remain an irreplaceable part of my childhood and I’m extremely grateful for that.

Darling, that’s probably true. Hermione Watson outsold in the first one though.

Meryl is fantastic in Florence Foster Jenkins.

It’s unnecessarily hated on because of she got an Oscar nomination for against Amy Adams, when in reality Negga was likely the one who stopped Adams.

This x 1000. Meryl hit all 4 precursors and is just Meryl anyway, yet people act like she was the surprise nominee instead of Ruth who only had CC + Globes. Make it make sense.

Speaking of Streep, her performance in August: Osage County is one of her best surpassing her performances in Doubt, Florence Foster Jenkins, The Iron Lady, and even The Deer Hunter.

Ehh I thought Julia outacted Meryl so hard in AOC (and belonged in lead), hell if Julia had won supporting actress she’d be my top fave supporting actress winner this decade.

That’s a great point. I did like King’s performance but it’s weird how she received so much acclaim for herself while the rest of the cast was completely ignored. Kiki Layne, Stephan James and Brian Tyree Henry all did something too, especially the latter who’s consistently great and really underrated. I really wish he got some attention too

The movie also deserved a Picture + Cinematography nom. A SAG Ensemble nom would have been cute too, but they didn’t even nominate Regina so whatever

Agreed on the underrated part. I still need to see American Woman but she really elevates her material in American Sniper. She might even make my ballot that year.

Everyone knows that it was Ruth who stole Amy’s nomination this year, people only complain about Meryl being nominated because most of them liked Ruth’s performance more than Meryl’s and thought Meryl should have been left out so that both Ruth and Amy could be nominated.
