Here’s one- Booksmart is vastly overrated and incredibly mediocre. Wilde is overly indulgent in some of the more artistic scenes and it only distracts from the comedy (or even the drama). The supporting characters are worse than your average high school cliche characters and are incredibly hit or miss. I liked the two leads and the film has its sweet moments but overall the movie is an uneven mess. Not funny and not tender enough to justify the price of admission.

My personal Top 5 of 2019 so far:
    1) Parasite 2) The Farewell 3) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 4) Joker 5) Jojo Rabbit

The Goodbye Girl should have won the big 5 at the Oscars: Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay.

Richard Dryfess’s win for “Goodbye Girl” is one of the best wins in Lead Actor history.

Darlings, those who say Uma Thurman deserved to win over Dianne Wiest in 1994, clearly haven’t seen Bullets Over Broadway. Wiest deserved the award, even though Thurman was the best thing from Disgusting Fiction.

I was your Prime Minister once.

The Supporting categories need to do something about all the co-leads getting in lately. Brad Pitt is probably going to get into Supporting Actor for OUATIH despite the fact he’s basically an equal lead in that movie.

Also, loved all the performances in The Favourite but Emma Stone felt like the lead of that movie – co-lead with Olivia Coleman. She has a lot of screen-time, and she has the most developed arc in her scheming. Weisz was the only performance correctly placed in Supporting Actress for that movie.

    For Your Consideration:

Best Picture: Weathering With You, Parasite, The Lighthouse
Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe - The Lighthouse
Best Animated Feature: Weathering With You, Promare
Best International Film: Weathering With You, Parasite

To me, all three felt supporting. Stone’s was in it for like, 10 minutes more than Colman? And although Weisz was in it the least, she had the most presence of the three when she was in a scene.

Had Stone placed in lead and Colman in supporting, will Close finally win?

    The Irishman and Parasite rocks!

Easily. Stone was never gonna win a 2nd lead so easily (if at all)

Ellen Burstyn richly deserved her Oscar for Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore over the incredible Gena Rowlands for A Woman Under The Influence.

I think Shelley Duvall and Heather Donahue were Oscar worthy for The Shining and The Blair Witch Project, not Razzie worthy. Raw and real performances of fear have been unfairly criticised over the years. Although I’m pleased the Academy did the right thing and nominated Sigourney Weaver for Aliens, I think they missed an opportunity by ignoring her and Veronica Cartwright for the first film in the series.

Digging more into this, Alien deserved noms for Best Picture and Best Director in addition to Weaver and Cartwright. But I’m glad they rewarded Aliens the way they did, and Weaver was honestly deserving of a win to go along with her nomination.

I agree Alien deserved better at the Oscars. It should’ve gotten at least picture, director, and actress. Ian Holm also would’ve been a very deserving nominee for Alien.

Brian Tyree Henry was mesmerizing in If Beale Street Could Talk. He only popped up for a second, but his conversation with the main character is fantastic and Henry completely owns it.

Hans Zimmer’s score for Dark Phoenix is brilliant. It won’t be nominated due to Dark Phoenix’ box office results alone, but it would be definitely worthy of a nomination.

Elizabeth Shue was better than Nicolas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas.

Wonder Wheel, apart from being atrocious, featured another desperate, not good performance from Kate Winslet who thought she was receiving her 2nd Best Actress Oscar. Lmao I have to laugh
