Let’s continue the discussions here. I will start.

Argo was an incredible movie but I think Zero Dark Thirty should have won Best Director and Best Picture. (Both were snubbed for Best Director)

Tilda Swinton should have won her Oscar for We Need to Talk About Kevin (in a leading role). She really gave a lot of great performances and had an amazing career. I also thought that her performance in Michael Clayton was spectacular, but the Oscar should have been given to Cate Blanchett instead for her unbelievably transformative performance in I’m Not There. That was almost a tie for me personally.

The self-indulgent Irishman is not even top 10 Scorsese movies

    FYC :

    Best Actress - Viola Davis
Best Actor - Delroy Lindo, Chadwick Boseman
Best Supp Actor - Daniel Kaluuya, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

Ben Affleck is an awful actor. He can’t even pull off a convincing and enthralling performance when he’s playing a parody of himself like in The Way Back. His few acceptable performance are almost all due to the immense talent of the respective directors (himself included).

Nicole Kidman and Kate McKinnon were better than Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie in Bombshell.

The film was trash but technically submitting Kidman in supporting was category fraud. Her and Theron were the co-leads of that film and that’s evident from the fact that we see both of them narrate their journey throughout the film (the narrative structure of that film and the screenplay in its entirety felt like a cat pooped on it and smudged the ink).

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", AMANDA SEYFRIED FOR "MANK", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

Narrating doesn’t make her a lead. Richard Jenkins narrated The Shape of Water, and he’s clearly supporting. Theron, Robbie, and Lithgow all clearly had larger parts, as Kidman falls out of focus in the second half.

Thank you. Zero Dark Thirty remains my favourite movie of 2012

Before ZDT came out, I remember thinking, who wants to see a movie about them killing Osama Bin Laden?
The trailer did not sell the movie to me as well. When I saw it in theaters, I could not believe how good it was.

My favorite English language film of the 2010s.

Absolutely, and the fact that it didn’t perform half as well as Hurt Locker despite being more successful and just as acclaimed is rather.. telling

They gladly welcomed a female-directed movie that exclusively revolved around men, but the same directional achievement with a woman in the leading role apparently was too much for them

Agreed. ZDT was superior to The Hurt Locker in almost every way. I guess the novelty wore off and the campaign against it was just too strong. Avatar wasn’t strong enough competition against The Hurt Locker, and maybe The Hurt Locker vote was more a vote against Avatar which was the fave but people didn’t really like it once they saw it.

Hugh Grant’s was the only “Florence Foster Jenkins” performance deserving a nomination.

Hugh Grant should have been submitted in Lead for Florence Foster Jenkins and he should have won the Oscar that year.

Hugh Grant gave the best supporting performance for Paddington 2 as well and deserved a Best Actor nomination for About a Boy.
