    So you sympathize with nazis?

I sympathize with a small brainwashed child who learns to let go of his nonsensical implanted hate and reject his evil former idol. I also sympathize with a closeted gay man who has to hide his true self from the bigots who have run his country into the ground and spends his last minute trying to finally do something decent and save a little kid’s life.

but wouldn’t you agree that a challenging film would probably dare to question the morals of brainwashing a film and spewing hatred into its mind just to protect him? jojo rabbit makes it look cute and innocent but there is actually a huge ethical debate hidden there that the film doesn’t address at all.

The film clearly does question those morals though, as it makes it clear that the treatment of the main character and those other children is absolutely reprehensible. It literally shows children so brainwashed by their country that they’re sent into battle as living grenades. The earlier scenes may show a lighter side to all of this, but it’s meant to be viewed through the eyes of these kids, and the danger of their teachings are present even then. It wasn’t showing it as cute and innocent, it was showing how little kids thought it was, but adult eyes clearly see that it’s anything but, which is made completely crystal clear in the climax.

That’s exactly the scene I was thinking about. Imagine watching that and still thinking that Waititi didn’t question the morals of the Nazi regime in terms of brainwashing kids. Like, there is SO MUCH criticism of that in this film, you’d really have to look away on purpose to not spot any of it.

Jojo Rabitt was the best film of that year and should have won best picture.

I literally don’t know how you watch the film and not come away that’s its challenging Nazis. The movie looks cute and innocent because it from the POV of a brainwashed small child.

I understand someone not liking how the film approaches it’s morals and lessons, but I feel like too many critics use their dislike of that approach to completely disregard the morals and lessons altogether.

Viggo Mortensen’s performance in Green Book is just a wildly laughable caricature.
He shouldn’t even have been nominated.

Ewan McGregor HAS to play Bono in a biopic. I can’t get over how much they look alike in certain pictures/videos.
