The Irishman was a massive streaming hit but it sucked. One of my least favorite Scorsese films.

Gee sis…..tell us how you really feel. Anyone watching a Marvel movie for an actor’s ‘performance’ is a simp to begin with. When people say MBJ was good in BP they probably mean he looked hot in those 6/7/8 packs and look fairly menacing as a foe. THATS ALL there is to it. Ain’t nobody from that movie was trying to win an Oscar.

And that annoying little sister is going to be the next Black Panther so i guess you’ll just have to deal.

P.S I didn’t even like the movie…i thought it was overrated as F.

You mean we shouldn’t expect award-level qualities in Marvel movies despite so many SCREAMING in my ear that MCU films ARE films and not just eye candy for people with stunted maturity? Even for a film that was nominated for Best Picture and won a few Oscars? People on this very forum thought Jordan deserved an Oscar nomination at the time. And don’t worry about me suffering through that girl’s performance. I only watched the first one out of siblingship, and I feel less guilty skipping the next one considering that I don’t think my brother will ask me to watch that one after he saw my reaction to the first one.

I enjoyed Black Panther but the women stood out the most for me. Michael B Jordan was over-the-top. I think he and Daniel Kaluuya should have switched roles.

Marriage Story and The Irishman were the worst films nominated for Best Picture that year.

FYC OSCARS : PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN IN ALL CATEGORIES (ESP. ACTRESS – Carey Mulligan AND ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY — EMERALD FENNELL), VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", ESSIE DAVIS FOR "BABYTEETH"

Given that Viola Davis has both fervent stand and disgustingly racist detractors I feel the need to say this:

She’s an excellent actress whose one of the best of her generation and can certainly play a lot of different character types…but she’s not the most transformational actor in terms of changing her accent and physical mannerisms for a role- kind of like Olivia Colman. Although this piece of criticism can be applied to a lot of actors.

All Viola Davis needs to do is play a role with less seriousness, that maybe requires her to use a different timber or tone to her voice, and not cry (with snot) then people can shut up about her supposed lack of versatility. I think she’s capable but always is given such serious roles. Oscar winner and top tier actress or not, black actresses still don’t have much choices.

On that same note, someone once said The Shape of Water would be much more interesting if the casting decided to give Sally Hawkins’ role to Octavia Spencer but because of type casting and lack of imagination, it probably never occurred to director and casting folks’ minds to cast a Spencer type for that role. As excellent as Hawkins was in the role, I have to agree that it would have been ballsy to think outside of the box and cast Spencer in it to see what she could do with it.

Mary and Max should have been nominated for Best Picture. I’d go even as far as to say it should have won Animated Feature over Up, even though it’s close between them. It’s just one of the best animated movies ever.

    FYC:

Lead Actor: Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round)

Supporting Actress: Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm)

Supporting Actor: Paul Raci (Sound of Metal)

Had HBO’s Life Support and Bessie been released in theaters, Queen Latifah would have scored 2 Best Actress nominations.

Viola SHONE in the many comedic moments on HTGAWM. There’s one episode in which she was hilariously drunk, which had me howling. I think Ma Rainey’s is also something completely different for her; watching her let loose and move those hips is going to be insanely entertaining and satisfying.

Carey Mulligan was robbed for a win for An Education.

Elle Fanning Should(or Could) Have been multiple Oscar nominees for following:

Somewhere (Nods for Best Supporting Actress)

Ginger and Rosa (Nods for Best Actress)

3 Generations/About Ray (Nods for Best Actress/Best Supporting Actress)

Live By Night (Nods for Best Supporting Actress)

I think that’s the issue. Not everyone’s seen HTGAWM nor wants to. I was in law school when I saw the pilot and I thought it was too ridiculous (and her “cold call” wasn’t even that hard) for me even though I probably would have loved the gay romance development from what I’ve seen in clips.

I can understand that sentiment. But yeah, it’s a shame because I think  it’s easily her best performance to date as she got to play this character for six years and got to tap into so many emotions. If you haven’t seen her work in 2×14, 4×13, 5×09 and/or the series finale, you’re really missing out! THE scene in 2×14 is some of the best acting I have ever seen.

Amy Adams should NOT have been nominated in Supporting Actress for Vice. Either Elizabeth Debicki or Claire Foy should have taken her spot.

Debicki was I N C R E D I B L E in Widows. As was the whole cast, actually. Hot take: Daniel Kaluuya should have gotten his first nomination for that movie instead of Get Out.

Widows was so robbed. Davis, Kaluuya and Debicki were all phenomenal.
