    Lets continue the conversation here….

Both Meryl and Viola deserved their nomination in 2011, but I truly believe Rooney Mara blew both of them away. She was truly the best out of the nominees in my opinion. What do you guys think?

I don’t generally like Rooney Mara but she’s incredible in TGWTDT and absolutely deserved to win.

Black Swan is a terrible movie and Natalie Portman was the worst in the 2010 Best Actress lineup. Any other nominee would’ve made a far better winner.

Patricia Arquette is also a terrible winner. Boyhood does not hold well upon a second watch and she was not at all convincing as Mason’s mother.

There wasn’t any other worthy nominee that year to be honest, Laura Dern’s nom was honorary, Emma Stone did not deserve to get nommed, and please don’t Keira Knightley me, she was not a strong contender either but probably Arquette’s runner-up. I actually liked Streep in Into the Woods more than any of them.

Phantom Thread was drastically overrated by the Academy. The only major nomination that it deserved was Daniel Day Lewis for Best Actor.

Yeah, I’m not terribly fond of Arquette’s turn but she’s still clearly the best of that anemic field.

In the Bedroom is overrated. Sissy Spacek did not deserve the Golden Globe, and Tom Wilkinson was snubbed 1000% for the Globe, having more and better material than Spacek. I’m not ok with the film being up for Best Picture either.

Being up for Best Picture, along with Spacek’s performance.

I totally disagree with this but I love that you posted this. FINALLY, an actual “unpopular” opinion in this thread. Everything else had been said ad naseum during the height of each of the films’ mentioned Oscar seasons and even now.

I’ve said this multiple times, but I will continue to say this. Halle Berry’s win for Monster’s Ball was truly deserved. I think it was that performance that paved the way for the NC17 films that have been nominated, and/or made buzz during the award season.

I also hate how many judged her character. People like Angela Bassett put down the character because she did not uplift the Black community, but in reality, there are so many women like Leticia. Halle did not play the lawyer or doctor that so many want to see. She played a real woman in a real situation. The character Leticia had lost her husband, her child, and her home. She was a survivor.

    All my personal opinion.
