Robert Duvall in his prime was a better actor than Robert De Niro (De Niro was always brilliant, but Duvall was on another level imo)

Cloud Atlas deserved 12 Oscar nominations and at least 6 wins, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Score. As of now, I would probably even award the film Best Picture and Best Director, but those three (and some craft/tech wins) for sure.

Seriously, what the hell went wrong with the reception of the movie? The source novel is one of the best things ever!

Sure, The Blind Side, Extreme Loud and Incredibly Close, Chocolat, Doctor Dolittle, The Accidental Tourist, The Reader etc were excellent Best Picture nominees

Lol ur just going to fight a dumb battle if u want to argue 1-2 films from 24 categories with 85 years b4 oscarsowhite is beyond terrible than the 4 consecutive flop years in ratings/viewership/box office with the Oscars. Unless ur trying to argue 2016 & 2017 were the best years in cinema/Oscar history ever.

Nice pivot, making it about ratings and box office when it’s clear your original intention was to denigrate the nomination of certain movies because you believe they only got in because of “politics”. You ain’t slick.

How dare I suggest the an award show is about politics and ratings or box office instead of about art? Too fucking bad this one isn’t working.

Leonardo DiCaprio has several overrated performances and he was not so overdue

Most of DiCaprio’s films with Scorcese were not so good and he was miscast in many of his roles.

Most of the actors who worked with David Fincher deserved a nomination or won the Oscar

Only two or three of the nominated performances in each category every year are actually the best of the year and are performances that will be remembered after several years.

    Agreed. He’s just awful.

He’s certainly not awful, although he definitely has some overpraised performances here and there; namely The Aviator and Blood Diamond. DiCaprio’s performances in The Wolf of Wall Street and The Departed deserve Oscars tbh.
