Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Sebastian Stan are bland and have no on-screen charisma and presence. I still remember how Stan’s fans on Twitter and Tumblr compared him to DDL after I, Tonya was released and said he deserved a SA Oscar nomination.

Chris Evans usually makes me laugh just looking at him; Chris Hemsworth is solid in Rush and had that memorable cameo in Star Trek; and I wouldn’t be able to pick Sebastian Stan in a lineup even though I discovered that I’ve seen many many of his films. Can’t explain it. But nothing stays the same.

Ordinary People had three of the best performances ever record on film and Mary Tyler Moore should have won over Sissy Spacek. Plus, Sutherland should have been nominated for Lead Actor while Hutton should have won Lead Actor (over Robert DeNiro in Raging Bull).

    I’d have nominated it for:
    (Wins in BOLD)

Best Picture (victory over Raging Bull, Coal Miners Daughter, The Elephant Man)
    Best Director
    Best Actor (Donald Sutherland)
    Best Actor (Timothy Hutton)
    Best Actress (Mary Tyler Moore)

    Best Supporting Actor (Judd Hirsch)
    Best Adapted Screenplay
    Best Film Editing

Needless to say, I think Ordinary People is one of the greatest Best Picture winners of all time.

JoJo rabbit doesn’t deserve the hate it got

This is popular and unpopular at the same time. 4.0 on Letterboxd, 80% on RottenTomatoes but hated by some FilmTwitter and Cinephile shenanigans.

It got even more hate because it won over another Little Women adaptation and another Scorserse gangster flick, which Screenplay are considered superior compared to Jojo

This is probably Popular with The General Public but Unpopular with My Oscar Voters: Spielberg dramas are Too Awful. He is a Very Visual Director and that’s why His Greatest Movies Ever are Pure Visual Movies like Jaws, Minority Report and Jurassic Park 1

I kind of agree but they are young so I suppose they could still get better as actors

I liked Jennifer Lawrence’s nomination for Joy and don’t think that she shouldn’t have been nominated for it.
In fact, it’s probably my favorite performance of hers in the three David O. Russell movies she did.

    Agree about Sutherland. Egregious snub.

This thread is brutal. Just an unpopular observation.

Michael Haneke is sick from the neck up.

I never realised Freddy Highmore kinda looks like Timothy Hutton

Agreed! (Shocker). I also liked her in Passengers and the film.

Evans is absolutely one of the worst actors working today. It’s difficult for a performance to be so bad that it drags down the rest of the project but he does that in all his Marvel films (which aren’t even acting showcases in the first place), Defending Jacob (I’d be embarrassed if a 14 year old acted circles around me the way Jaeden Martell did) and Before We Go is a stain on cinema. It’s actually mind boggling to think about how he’s been acting since he was a kid and his skill level is where it’s at.

I actually think Hemsworth is pretty good. He’s very charismatic obviously and can handle comedic moments very well. I feel like sadly many actors in his vein don’t get stabs at more dramatic roles very often but I have faith that he’d do well.

I definitely don’t get the Stan hate. He was great in Fresh and I, Tonya, maybe not nomination worthy but that was such a packed year. He was better in Fresh than lots of acting nominees this year.
