Ke Huy Quan navigated transitions between universes and their respective versions much better than Yeoh.

Because Yeoh is essentially playing 1 character going through every universe whereas Quan is playing 3 characters, each unaware of the other’s presence in the multiverse. Because of that the transitions are very prominent for Quan

Couldn’t agree more. Tbf it’s not his fault, he has no character to work with. His impression is great, but a cruiseship Elvis impersonator’s impression is also great, probably. A genuinely fantastic performance would require good writing.

Austin Butler is a good Elvis Presley, but there have been thousands of good Elvis Presleys.

I feel that his supporters almost unanimously love the film as a whole, and/or buy into the narrative surrounding his ‘comeback’. I’ve never encountered someone who doesn’t like EEAAO, but still thinks he gives a winning performance irrespective of their opinion of the film as a whole.
Don’t come for me.

I’d be really curious to see an age breakdown of how people assess Butler’s performance. I strongly suspect that viewers old enough to have actually seen Elvis perform live think Butler is good, but aren’t blown away by him nearly as much as those who were born after his death.

Her role/performance isn’t good and the film is even worse. People are just excited for her because she isn’t white or young and also the fact that her role isn’t a typical Oscar role

November 29, 2022 at 11:23 am #1205170631Very unpopular opinion: It’s possible to root for people of color because of their talent and execution and not the diversity they would bring to the Oscars, which would also be very valid.

I agree but I think I liked the movie a little bit more than you did. EEAAO is a Sci-Fi. EEAAO is not an “Oscar movie”. I think all people are Overrating the movie because it’s NOT a typical(boring) indie
