For Scott Millan not to also get an Oscar for the sound mixing of 1917 was really s****y and cruel. He was nominated and won everywhere else with the other sound mixers including BAFTA. Why was his name left off the ballot?

I’d go even further: Joker’s makeup will go on history as iconic and be remembered forever, while Bombshell’s makeup will be forgotten next year.

I agree that Joker’s makeup will remain iconic, but Bombshell’s was still more impressive and deserved the win.

That’s not to say Bombshell’s makeup wasn’t impressive, because it was. But you’re right, Joker will leave a longer lasting impression for many reasons.

My opinion is that film’s that have to think outside of the box and be more creative with their makeup deserve to win more than films that just copy the looks of a real-life figure. That’s why I felt Wonder deserved to win more than Darkest Hour in 2017, and why Deathly Hallows Part 2 deserved to win in 2011. The only truly deserving Makeup wins this decade, in my opinion, were Star Trek, Mad Max Fury Road, and Suicide Squad.

I agree. The best and most exciting Makeup winners are the most original ones.

It’s not just about copying the look. You have to reeeeeeally take the actor’s anatomy into consideration and make the design of the face and of the prosthetics based on that.

To be fair though, Joker’s makeup wasn’t exactly thinking outside the box. He just looks like a clown. I’m not knocking it, it’s a good clown design for the character, but it’s not really outside the box thinking.

Elisabeth Moss would have been a better double nominee than Scarlett Johansson.

The Favourite didn’t accomplish anything. Great roles and fantastic execution. The acting, production design, costumes, cinematography… it’s all great. But the writing leaves so much to be desired. It’s just about the idea of “would you rather someone who is blunt with you, or someone who butters you up?” It doesn’t expound upon this idea at all. The script is about a premise, which is characteristic of Lanthimos’ works.

With Joker, it’s just new makeup their creating but a entirely new iconography for the character. That alone is a whelming task for any one to under take and do it well.

BlacKkKlansman should’ve gotten the awards that went to Green Book. That BlacKkKlansman was sidelined in favor of Green Book is insulting.

I would say BlacKkKlansman,A Star Is Born,Favourite,ROMA all would have been better winners than Green Book.

Green Book is just a feel good family film but wrongly told one.

BlacKkKlansman is special among the 2018-2019 BP nominees in my opinion because it’s the closest comparison to Green Book in terms of subject matter (in both cases, race relations). Giving BlacKkKlansman Best Picture would’ve achieved at least a similar effect except better in every capacity. But instead the Academy decided to have one of their ‘old white male’ moments. Thank god Parasite won this year.

My opinion is that I see people care about narratives more than the actual best performance, to the point they’d rather make up slander the competition rather than give points on why the narrative performance deserved it, besides yhe reason their overdue, kind of like the Academy itself.

If overdue Glenn does not give the top pefromance of her category, although she earned it the 80’s, people will say her competitors were simply not worthy.

BlackKkKlansman didn’t get those awards because it was spillting votes with Black Panther. There were actually more people adamant that Black Panther nomination should happen than that BlackKkKlansman should win. And SAG-AFTRA gave Ensemble to Panther so you could easily see where votes that BlackKkKlansman needed to overtake GB went. It happens when movies have a common denominator. I think that explains Affleck-Bigelow snubs. Both directed political thrillers and split votes.

    Unpopular Opinion, I know. 🙂

Jackie Weaver actually deserved her nomination for Silver Linings Playbook
