I wish he would have been nominated for Jojo Rabbit instead of Three Billboards and Vice. His performance in that movie was actually fantastic, and of course they snubbed it.

I’m glad that of all the performances Scarlett was the one to get a nomination, but I would’ve taken Rockwell over Hopkins because I think he at least had a good angle for that performance with the element of trying to protect Jojo.

After watching my favorite film of all time, Mad Max Fury Road, I appreciate the story a whole lot more and think it’s criminally underrated. The fact that Fury Road’s story is so simple is actually what makes it so great: it’s not filled with complicated overarching plotlines like Fast and Furious, or incomprehensible plot twists like Mission Impossible Fallout, or an overabundance of characters like John Wick. It’s a simple story packed to the gills with rich themes of feminism, acceptance, redemption, and finding your place in the world; none of which ever feel preachy. It also has some of the most phenomenal characters and character arcs of the decade, and it’s the best example of great world-building in recent memory. Also Fury Road has the best Cinematography of the decade, and Emmanuel Lubetski didn’t deserve a third Oscar.

Agreed. Fury Road should’ve won an additional three Oscars for Picture, Director and Cinematography, and an additional nom for Charlize Theron.

And one for score as well. The score is so good! How did they overlook it?

I would have personally nominated Nicholas Hoult too, even though not everyone loved his performance. He was the heart and soul of the movie and had so many great scene-stealing moments. Definetely my favorite performance of his.

Funny how despite winning SIX trophies Mad Max was still robbed of 2-3, maybe 4 more.

That fucking SANDSTORM scene alone should have earned it Cinematography + Score. I liked Revenant and Hateful 8 but Mad Max deserved

I’m so damn bored of these biopics about someone from the past’s “incredible true story”. This goes tenfold if the film is about a musician.

I want them to give us something original rather than rehashes of the same story set to music and nostalgia.

No Film should ever win Best Picture anywhere without Best Director nomination.

isn’t that a popular opinion? A lot of people think splits shouldn’t happen either.

The Queen should’ve won Best Original Screenplay over Little Miss Sunshine.

Roma winning best director is bullshit. Lanthimos would have been a more satisfying alternative.

The Queen should’ve won Best Original Screenplay over Little Miss Sunshine.

“Little Miss Sunshine” is the best winner in that category in 2000s sans “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. That might be unpopular opinion nowadays as well.

Speaking of Mad Max, I really loved Ex Machina, but winning Best Visual Effects over the masterpiece that is Mad Max was a complete joke. Like… how is this even possible?!

The only reason I can think that Mad Max didn’t win Cinematography and Visual Effects (it never had a chance at Picture and Director, sadly) was that they wanted to spread the wealth and didn’t think one film should win 8 awards. That hasn’t happened since Slumdog Millionare in 2008, before the preferential ballot. And that was a Picture winner. There was no good alternative in the 6 categories Mad Max won, so they gave Lubetski his 3rd and Ex Machina got the surprise win.

I think hype backlash is also what hurt La La Land. No one wants to see one movie sweep a ton of categories anymore, even if Fury Road deserved it. It’s not exciting, and probably bad for ratings too.

Even though it’s still an underwhelming performance, Renee was miles better than Stone, Lawrence and Larson combined in their respective wins.

Emma Stone was way more deserving of an Oscar for The Favourite (her absolute best performance) than for La La Land… Had Huppert won, she would have swept BSA last year, rightfully so.

I never got the hype around Mad Max: Fury Road. It’s beautiful but I found it empty. I was very underwhelmed. And Theron didn’t deserve a nomination for that film (I love her though).

I can’t wait to see JLaw come back. She’s one of the best of her generation. I just hope she doesn’t work with DOR again because that guy makes horrible movies.

And Liv Ullmann is the GOAT. By far. I’ve never been as captivated by any other actor or actress.
