There should be General Movie Talk Thread on Goldderby.

Here, you can only post un-popular opinions.

I would like to see some of the Supporting Oscar nominees and winners of recent years get a Lead Acting nomination. I think it would be really cool to see them make the jump. I’m thinking of Casey Affleck winning in Lead after a past nomination in Supporting, and Willem Dafoe getting his first Lead Acting nomination after three previous bids in Supporting. Lupita Nyong’o almost got there, but alas, no cigar. Two people in particular I’d like to see earn a Lead Acting nomination are Mahershala Ali and Regina King.

All About My Mother is overrated. Almodovar did much better.

The Princess Bride should’ve been nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor for Mandy Patinkin.

I’ll go so far as to say it was deserving of wins in those categories.

Leonardo DiCaprio should have been nominated for Revolutionary Road and Shutter Island. He was also good in Catch Me If You Can.

I have watched that movie and I do not see the appeal. Sorry

I had such high hopes because everyone talked so highly of this movie and I felt disappointed.

Amy Adams should’ve won for The Fighter instead of Melissa Leo.

John Irving’s original draft for the Cider House Rules was 9 hours long. He ended up compressing the original 15-year timespan to 15 months. I really feel his novel would be better suited as a TV series rather than the watered-down adaptation that we got.

The Talented Mr. Ripley is a great movie, the cast is amazing and has Matt Damon at his finest BUT the ending ruins the whole mood of the movie.

    Agreed.

Princess Bride being a romantic comedy (films primarily staring or made for a female) means it was unfortunately never going to be considered “serious” by AMPAS.

Renee Zellweger & Melissa McCarthy had to give all timers with excruciating physical work to even be considered.

Shrek 2 should’ve won Animated Feature over The Incredibles.

With that being said, Incredibles is a great film and would’ve been a deserving winner in most other years.
