Go Away. He is an amazing actor and was robbed for both Last Detail and Chinatown

I agree that he’s amazing, but his work in Chinatown isn’t even close to what Pacino did in Godfather Part II that year.

And to think Art Carney won for that movie with the cat.

I strongly prefer “The Hobbit” series to “The Lord of the Rings,” even though LOTR won a ton of awards. “The Hobbit” was considered by some to be a cash grab by extending a single volume novel to three movies, but everything is a cash grab nowadays. I’m not a fan of Orcs or zombies, one dimensional villains that are massive in number but that are just killed easily and disappear. That’s why I never got into “The Walking Dead” or zombie themed shows or movies. I thought the Benedict Cumberbatch English speaking dragon Smaug was an amazing villain. The stories and characters are more interesting. The third Hobbit movie felt a little weaker than the first two though.

Also, for the 1997 Oscars, I would have given Lead Actor to Peter Fonda, Lead Actress to Judi Dench, and Supporting Actress to Gloria Stuart.

Babel did not deserve Picture, Director or Screenplay nominations at the Oscars.

Renée Zellweger deserved her 2nd Oscar.

That shouldn’t be unpopular considering her category competitors. Outside of Alfre Woodard nobody from that season was robbed of proper recognition.

I think it depends on which film you prefer, although either would’ve been a better choice than the guy who unfairly replaced Gene Hackman.

Out of the nominees, Renee wasn’t a bad choice but there are plenty of actresses including Saoirse who was nominated that deserved it more than her.

renee’s win in itself was fine, one of the less offensive ones this decade, but it’s only fair that second wins are to be put under the microscope a little bit

    As does Awkwafina.

She didn’t deserve the two major prizes she got for it.

Charlize Theron should’ve been nominated for Mad Max: Fury Road instead of Bombshell.

Meryl’s work in The Iron Lady is in her top three.
