1917, Trial of Chicago 7, Crash, American Hustle, Vice, Monster’s Ball, The Theory of Everything also say hello. Oscar nominations is by no means a barometer of a great script.
Oh definitely .I just said green book cause it won over The Favourite-my favorite movie of the decadeAugust 24, 2021 at 3:45 pm #1204414188
Just because it won over your favorite, it doesn’t mean is a mediocre script
From Green Book’s award winning screenplay:
“Mmm. I think this is the best Kentucky Fried Chicken I ever had. But I guess it’s fresher down here, right?”

Christoph Waltz is a very awful actor. He won 2 Undeserved Oscars. It shows that Writing is everything with actors. Some very gifted Directors can save some movies with bad writing. But NO actor in all history can save bad writing(even the greatest of all time CAN’T save bad writing
I don’t think he’s awful, but he is a one trick ponyAugust 25, 2021 at 12:32 am #1204414618
Interesting, many on this forum said Joaquin saved a bad writing in Joker but i think Joker script is great, i don’t think a mediocre script would’ve been nominated at the Oscars.
I agree. The Greatest Actors of All Time were in some very awful movies like Brando, Pacino and De Niro. Even the Greatest Actors Ever can’t save movies. But I saw some very gifted Directors saved moviesAugust 25, 2021 at 9:43 am #1204415203

Stan Twitter is full of toxic and delusional people who need to stop acting as if they know the actors they like on a personal basis and talking about them like they’re friends or relatives (looking at you Anya Taylor-Joy fans and Adam Driver fans). I sometimes wonder if these people actually exist in real life because they all talk and think in the same way.August 25, 2021 at 9:50 pm #1204416520

That’s an extremely popular opinionAugust 26, 2021 at 1:16 am #1204416626
Art is subjective, but there is definitely objectivity too. It’s a blend. Parasite is better than The Kissing Booth, and there’s nothing that can change that.
With this, eventually the objectivity aspect fades entirely until it is almost wholly subjective. There can be consensuses, but it is still subjective — a lot of people just happen to agree.
I think that’s a big problem that plagues this site: people don’t know just where the subjectivity comes into play. For instance, all the Green Book and La La Land and 1917 hate. Sure, you may not think they deserved Best Picture, but if somebody says they do, they are not wrong. They are all good movies that were top tier contenders that were liked by audiences, critics, and the industry. And while the movies that beat them (or in the case of Green Book, was predicted to) were the consensus picks, there is a significant group that believes they were better, and because it’s like comparing pizza and pasta (both good), there is no right answer.
I only think the second one deserved to win btw but that’s not the point
